I wish I knew a few years ago it was THAT easy. I made 7 granny square motif afghans (no sew) and when I was making the 50 quadrillion squares for the last one, I was getting bored with them. I needed this video back then 😭🤣 ... Once I overcome my burnout, I definitely need to try this style because I adore the look of granny squares (save video!)

I would think this heart square would look nice in the middle of a granny square blanket. You can place other squares around it as well as just keep going around and around until it's one large granny square, blanket sized.
