Thank you for this! It will actually make it more secure than the backs which can slide off.

You're totally right! I have since started doing this to pretty much all of my safety eyes because of this ❤❤❤

Thank you for this tutorial. I've been looking all over for a tool to cut the back off two safety eyes I used for a gift bag. Since its open, you can feel the sharp point in the back of the eyes. This is the perfect answer. Can't wait to try it.

Lauren I'm so happy to see this because I tell everyone about how I do this and most are like no way, but it really comes in handy and with caution it's not dangerous at all. Thanks from now on I have a video to share with others while explaining how I do it, I don't use cardboard I like to use the bottom of lighters as they have different numbers and different designs and I'm always excited to see if I can read the number and how it will turn out. I also use square lighters and press just completely flat when needed but it also keeps the safety eyes from being able to be pulled out of the crocheted piece, I crochet tight but still worry about animals and babies getting ahold of something I make and this makes me feel better about it.

Oh I totally agree, I pretty much do it to every safety eye now! And unfortunately, I had to add all of those warning labels because you know even though it really isn't dangerous, there is always that slim chance of a freak accident! 😅 I think it's super fun that you try to print the lighter numbers on your melted eyes! I will definitely give the lighter technique a go!!! ❤❤❤

Brilliant!! Could they also be used as eyes for that one project that needs weird eyes?! You're right, this is a game changer.
@AMenagerieofStitches2 жыл бұрын
Yes it definitely can be used for a bunch of different projects!!! Maybe a Wall-E would be one of those weird eye scenarios?!?! 🙂

@@AMenagerieofStitches Robots! Of course. This tip excites me too much I think. lol The last HUGE tip I received was to make a 3rd arm and use it inside as a neck! No floppy heads. Brilliant!

I want to do this with my chunky yarn but I’m afraid of it catching on fire? Any tips? I heard some people use a fabric but I don’t know what to use!! TIA!
@AMenagerieofStitches Жыл бұрын
I've only tried it a couple times on fluffy yarn and all I did was fold the yarn back completely so the lighter wasn't going to touch the yarn. I think I've seen the fabric technique you mentioned but honestly, melting them like this has always worked for me so I haven't tried anything else! 💖💖

Well ventilated is right! I did this sitting on my living room couch, which was dumb. The carbon monoxide detector went off. Scared the bejeebers out of me.

Oh no!!! 😲 Im glad you made it through to reinforce the need for ventilation 💕💖

Thank you so much, For this easy to follow tutorial. I don’t trust using saftey eyes on Amigurumi toys for children . This is a great tutorial to make sure the saftey eye won’t come off after attaching them. 💗🧶💗

Thank you for the comment!! 💕💕 Melting the eyes also adds a level of security if the items are being handled by children. Safety eyes are safe to a certain level, and melting them adds additional locking power 💖💖💖💖

I have, maybe, a dumb question. ..will using this technique make safety eyes safer.. I don't like to use safety eyes but my crochet eyes look awful...sooo I was just curious if this adds more protection to the eyes as well as makes it flat...
@AMenagerieofStitches Жыл бұрын
It totally makes it safer!!! ❤️❤️ As with anything, I can't say it's 100% safe, but it turns it almost into a plastic rivet and I haven't had any pop off since melting them
@Cla1970 Жыл бұрын
@AMenagerieofStitches thank u sooo much, I'm getting ready to do a market and my crochet eyes don't look as professional as the safety eyes..

How does that work for the metal washer eyes?
@AMenagerieofStitches Жыл бұрын
Works just the same! You’re not melting the washer so you would just melt the post and press into the washer. I have some with metal washers and do this exact method with the same results!

idk why but i can’t attach my safety eyes to my project so i’m thinking can i use this technique instead ?
@AMenagerieofStitches11 ай бұрын
You could try it but I would definitely recommend having the safety backing on there just for added security!
