I tried following another video on doing a houndstooth beanie and gave up in frustration. The directions were convoluted and the techniques felt awkward. I was so happy to find this video soon after, it made life so much easier! Your directions were clear and your techniques were simple enough for me to finish the hat in a couple of hours. Plus, I really love the solid black area on the top of the hat, it makes the houndstooth pattern stand out more. Thank you for posting this video!

I taught myself to crochet about 2 years ago. I deleted my facebook account and decided to learn something new. I do not crochet regularly. I liked this Hat and decided to make it. It came out pretty good. My seams was not was good as yours. I think I joined it at wrong place, but it still looks good. I started on it (The Hat) last night and completed it today. Very good tutorial.

I like the black and white, too, or maybe black and cream. I don't like seams much either, but I also don't like to just do the spiral rounds either. I like the way you do a chain one which doesn't count as a stitch, then later join to the top of the first real stitch-- no holes at the seams! I'm a retired teacher and have to say you are an excellent teacher! I taught myself to crochet several years ago and have learned a lot from your tutorials. Thanks and God bless...

I just finished this hat. I wasn't able to do the increases the way Crystal did because it made the top "wave" too much. I did the regular 5 row increase for a total of 60 stitches in my final increase row. I continued as Crystal instructed with a total of 30 rows. The hat looks amazing. My favorite so far and SO EASY! Thanks as always, Crystal!!

I’m so glad this is a top down. 😂 Going to have a go at this. I have a tip for when you crochet with black yarn. I use a neck light. There are two tones of light, yellow or white. I use the soft yellow light and it shows up black stitches great.

Crystal thank you so much! I've always wanted to learn how to do a houndstooth check hat and fingerless gloves and here they are! And your tutorials are so easy to follow! I've already sent these patterns to two of my crocheting buddies! Because right now with us being in social distancing because of the coronavirus we're going to be getting crafty! I thought this would be really nice in summer weight yarn too and the fingerless gloves can work to protect your hands from the Summer sun when you're driving! Haven't made this yet but you're right black and white is great for Houndstooth all the one year I did make a scarf with the red heart soft pink and black and I thought it was really beautiful!
