I just wanted to say that I enjoyed this video very much. I only learnt the basics of double and treble crochet over the last two months (along with getting a constant tension throughout… ). Now one week ago I have started a double bed size throw (240x240) in Grundl Lollypop yarn based on the stitch. This could take me a little while 🤣 Think I might have to find a small project to start for when I visit/travel, it won’t take long before this project becomes too large to transport!

Another really great video, thank you! I’m really enjoying learning to crochet some varied granny squares. As a complete novice I’ve found that my squares vary a bit in size, I think because my tension is changing as I’m becoming a bit better. Out of curiosity, what do your basic squares measure on average? I’m using Srylecraft DK as per your video where you showed the mood blanket you were making several years ago. Thank you 🙏🏻
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! 😊 As you’ve noticed, your tension will change as you become more experienced but it can also change depending on the material of the hook we’re using, the type of yarn and even our mood at the time! (You may crochet more loosely when you are relaxed, for example). I find that a three round granny square made using a 4mm hook and Stylecraft Special DK measures approximately 8cm across, but we all crochet with our own personal tension 😊
@annalequesne4580 Жыл бұрын
@@bellacococrochet thank you, it’s good to know there’s no ‘exactly right’ tension I should be aiming for! Since starting to learn watching your videos I’ve now made at least 40 squares in various colours and using 2 of your patterns- the first few are def larger/looser but I’m thinking I’ll make them into a smaller piece and keep the rest to eventually join up and into a full blanket which will be for my mum at Christmas… I may even make it double sided & use some of the larger squares up that way. Whatever it turns out like I know it won’t be perfect but it will be made with lots of love! Thank you again, not just for your videos which are giving me so much enjoyment but also for replying to my comments and questions. Anna

Can this be turned into a baby blanket? Make it larger than just a square, possibly a rectangle?
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
You can keep adding rows to this until you reach the size you want 😊 For a rectangle, once you’ve reached the desired width, you can continue increasing on one side only whilst decreasing on the other side.

Where did I go wrong? If anyone has any suggestions or whatever please write a reply

You should find that the sides stay nice and straight with this pattern so I would want to double check that you’re following it correctly. You can find the written instructions over on my blog here: blog.bellacococrochet.com/c2c-granny-square/ 😊 It may be that you’re decreasing too quickly some how which is causing it to curve.

@christinesanders65394 жыл бұрын
what does blocking the square do? And how do you do it?
@bellacococrochet4 жыл бұрын
Blocking helps crochet flatten out and lay flat - it's useful for projects such as granny squares that might curl up. The method depends on the yarn but for acrylic you can pin out into shape and then use an iron to very carefully blast steam at it (being careful not to make actual contact with the iron or the yarn will melt!). For yarns such as cotton and wool you can wet the piece and then pin out into shape while it dries 😊
