My tip is to leave something in your online basket for 24 hours before hitting 'confirm'. By that time I have normally come to my senses and realised I do not really need it. Or I have forgotten about it.

I keep telling people "holy grail" isn't really a thing for me. How different do pink blushes really look on the cheeks? I realized I wear the same things over and over, so I stopped buying the other things. I don't buy an eyeshadow palette for the one blue eyeshadow, I have my one eyeshadow quad that I use every day, and a few singles in pops of colors. One black and one brown eyeliner. An everyday MLBB lipstick, and a red. It took several years of being really honest with myself, but I am now a one makeup bag lady. It is wonderful.

Great video! Been there, done that. I shudder to think what the grand total is of all my makeup. I have stopped a lot though. Your suggestion about unsubscribing works wonders, and was one of the first things I did! Clearing apps from my phone also helped immensely. Sad thing is, a lot of these 'beauty gurus', who push these products, get them for FREE. And we, as consumers, have to remember that. We're paying for their products, as well as our own! It took me approximately six years, but I have finally reached saturation. There is just nothing left that I need to buy - and thank goddess I finally realize that! Esme' is grown!
@missmai277 жыл бұрын
Esme is SO big! : ) I think so few people think about the fact that youtubers can get the products for free *though it's up to us to decide if you want to receive anything*. I get approached about some stuff, not all, but I refuse. I took my email addy off my channel as I could not take it anymore.

It's very simple. Disconnect yourself from the mind control that is KZbin, blogs, vlogs, and advertisement. You will go a bit nuts for a little while when you realize just how much time and energy to put into it and have to find something else to fill your time.. and then you will be fine. You just won't care anymore.. you will go about your life using makeup like a normal person and if you need a new lippie you can go get one no big deal. You might even find a palette in the store that catches your eye.. and that's fine. The madness will stop. Just don't get sucked back in, and don't try to do it half way, you can't.. the subliminal and psychological techniques used will get you in the end. You have to just refuse to allow it into your head entirely.

It is amazing to see how long one product will last for. For example I made myself use up one full bronzer before grabbing another from my stash and I have realized that the makeup I have should last at least a decade. I've gone from a VIB Rouge status at Sephora last year, to purchasing only ONE product I didn't 'need' this year. This experiment helped me to change my shopping bad habits with makeup. Bye bye rouge status, I have some travelling to do!

It is like you were talking to me!!! I am not a KZbinr, but I watch all the time. That is what is causing my shopping problem, plus...QVC!!! I am in debt, I can't make it from paycheck to paycheck. I am always looking for that perfect shade of eye shadow or lip color! I have more makeup than I will ever use, but I keep buying more! I am pretty old and I have to say, in my makeup wearing lifetime, I have hit pan on very very few items. I HAVE to stop. :(

Thank you--great timing! I have more makeup than I will ever use and just had an "aha" moment about eyeshadow palettes. I don't need any! Wish I had stopped a couple years ago when I was "collecting" MAC pans. I am dedicating 2017 to using up what I have and focusing on skin care. I just started with Sunday Riley--it's expensive but I am loving it so will concentrate on that. Happy Holidays!

I loved the tip about thinking about the "other things" that our money can by. This has helped me immensely when I actually add up how much I've spent over a few months or a year on makeup, clothing, etc and it really puts everything in perspective when I see the numbers in front of me and can really think about different meanings behind the "cost" of the things I bought. Thanks for sharing!!

You are absolutely right! It still makes sense for makeup artists to buy a lot of makeup but for people like us who just buy for our own use, buying every new product that we see is ridiculous! I must admit the culprit for enabling me to buy way too much makeup than I need or use up is KZbin! I love to watch these videos, learn new techniques from them but at the end I spend and collect too much stuff that I can possibly never ever use up! Thank you for making this video......I will watch it every now and then to remind myself that I don't need to buy more makeup..... :)

I have the one in - one out policy for make-up, too. I (painfully) culled everything to fit into a certain size space, which really helped. Like you, I have unsubscribe to almost everything, housewares and clothes, too. I have unsubscribe from some KZbin channel that focus mostly on products. It isn't that I don't subscribe to any, just to those channels where I enjoy the person, like yours. I am so inspired by what you are doing and you keep me focused on minimalism as practice.

For me what’s curbing mine was the realization I am a make up artist and I understand color theory really well. If I have a anchoring for buying something, I see if I can recreate shades. For me it’s kinda better that way. I don’t think people realize how uncreative it is to buy palettes for 1-2 shades. So where in at today is very much understanding that I don’t have to have everything, because I’m an artist and if your a artist that can’t mix a shade/tone- learning it is unbelievably helpful. I never hear people say that who project pan. I wish more people would talking about how when you learn it- you stop looking for new shit. For me I feel way better at make up because of the fact mixing and pairing is what I do. So next update or tip video- let people know that. It feels good to feel like you’ve mixed and blended something perfectly to you.

Like your advice, I unsubscribed from emails showing me the newest products. Another thing I did was erase my credit card number from popping up automatically in my Senhora account. That way, if I'm looking at purchasing something, I have to go and get my online credit card from somewhere in my house and deliberately type it in. It makes me much more conscious of what I'm doing instead of my numbers coming up automatically when logging onto an online store account. I suppose I could have no account at all at Sephora, but frankly, when I do buy things, I want to know I'm collecting some points! Loving your hair, btw!

Everything you said is so true! It is that rush of getting something new too but it wears off so quickly and if you stop and tell yourself that could be going to a holiday i would decide I wouldn't need it. This is my favorite video that I've watched on youtube in a long time. New sub here fore sure! Thank you for saying these truths, esp as a makeup artist!! What's helped my makeup addiction recently is to, like you said, identify my true needs AND set up an honest budget of what I'm willing to spend for them (guilt-free). That programs my mind to consider things within that budget FIRST before I check out just anything, which might be several times the amount of what I originally wished to spend.

@ls7967 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of rotating makeup. That will really help me find what I really love in my collection and what I don't really reach for often. Also, I thought of subscription boxes when you were talking about email promotions. Those things like boxycharm seem awesome and are good if you are just starting with makup to try new things. But if you already have an idea of brands and products that you like from experience, then you don't need to try so many new items in those boxes.

You look so pretty with short hair! The best tip you gave is to unsubscribe to beauty brand e-mails. I can't resist a great sale, and I always manage to try to find something to buy to take advantage of the savings even when I don't NEED it. Last week Sephora sent me an e-mail with a gift certificate for $15.00 to use if I spend $50.00 or more. It expires on Sunday. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what to buy so that I can save the $15.00!!! The problem is, I can't think of anything I really want. In the past I've always found something to buy, but in my heart I know I'm having trouble finding something because I don't need anything. Perhaps I should let this one go and put the $35.00 towards something else. Thanks for all the great tips, Sanni! : )

Great tips! Shopping my stash has saved me a lot money over the past couple of years, but I find that I'm spending that "saved" money on extra skincare. I justify it by telling myself that the money I'm spending now will save me from needing/wanting expensive surgical procedures in the future. Can u do a minimalism makeup video about makeup that can multi task? For example shaanxo uses bronzer as eyeshadow sometimes. Could the UD Gwen Stephanie pallet have multi uses? Like that pink for blush, the highlight eyeshadow shade as highlighter, and the taupe eyeshadow as contour/bronzer. From ur experience as a makeup artist, can makeup pigment be placed anywhere?
@waymire017 жыл бұрын
Yes, provided it is not labelled with a contradiction. For example some blushes are specified not to be used on the eyes due to the ingredients. I often wear a face palette on my entire face including eyes. I find face palettes are easier due to the larger pans which accommodate large or small brushes easily.. but you can certainly wear eye shadows on your face. Some of my favorite highlighters are eyeshadows.

I have problem. And I will have to do a No Buy restriction for a month with the exception of mascara, cosmetics wise. The essentials WILL last me one to two months minimum so I MUST curb this shopping bs. One month is my first goal.

As of march 1st I put myself on makeup Low buy but I keep having the urge to buy makeup I said I was only going to buy the stuff I really needed like what I run out of but it's getting really hard so far I only bought one palette off of the hush app but I wanted it before I was on my makeup low buy it was out of stock on hush for so long that I didn't get to buy it before I went on my low buy so I don't count that but i keep looking at things to buy and I know that's not good

I find the best way not to buy makeup is to not have money for it lol 😂 I just pack everything I want into the cart, see that I don’t have 140$ and just alt+f4, problem solved 😁

No buy September’s is very good way. I tried not to buy anything urgent for one month and then I realized that slowly that I don’t need anything. Everything I already have is enough

My weakness is sales. Right now Becca blushes are 50% off. They were too expensive for me regular price AND I don’t need another blush (forever probably) so why is it so hard to say no to sales?

I know what you mean...just don't even LOOK at the sales!

before I buy a new shadow, I try to go look at swatches (temptalia.com is a great one for swatch comparisons) and see if i have something similar so I'm not trying to buy 80 of the same color over and over again!

One of my tricks is to watch KZbin for the person, not what s/he is talking about. Also I use KZbin for research and try to plan my spending. Another hint is to stop the subscription boxes. I love them, but do I use the products? Generally I give them away. Love you!

Goddess1207 I was thinking about the subscription boxes. I have two: Teri Miyahira and Beauty Heroes. I enjoy both of them but I am thinking of canceling Teri because I just don't need more random makeup. I really love Beauty Heroes and it's a chance to try beautiful eco skin care.

I did not think of sub boxes, I unsubbed from them a while back and totally forgot abotu them. I still get one that gets sent for free but I seldom really do anything with them...
