Borax??

Borax is a common additive in curing roe to use as bait, definitely not for human consumption.

A couple of tips use Kool-Aid packets instead of food coloring. Second tip is if your fishing salmon and steelhead like I do in Oregon use less salt little more sugar I catch more that way but if the fish has been out of saltwater a week and ahalf 2 weeks or more then you are good

I have tried orange and cherry Kool-Aid before with good success, thanks for the tip on the salt/sugar balance. That's valuable info for those who fish sea run trout and salmon.

Can you use brown sugar with this recipe. The reason I ask is because someone once mentioned curing roe to me in a vague way. All I got was boil brown sugar and salt. I am guessing it was something similar to what you do.
@MudSharkZ4 жыл бұрын
Never used brown sugar myself, but I don't see why not. Pretty sure I've seen recipes that use it.

Everyone does videos for Skeins and what they call single eggs. To me, single eggs are eggs cured to the point of being able to hold on a hook themselves - not in egg sacs..... I wish people did more videos of how to fully cure eggs for fishing as singles...…
@MudSharkZ5 жыл бұрын
I have never used single eggs myself. I will look into that. Guessing you would have to cure them for longer.

I've seen some things about having to do an Acid Bath to firm them up enough for hooks...

I’m actually making singles right now, I’m using muriatic acid and distilled water, small batches adjusting ratios of water to acid, starting at 10:1 cups water to milliliters of acid, slower is better

What’s water temperature?
@MudSharkZ Жыл бұрын
You don't put the eggs in until the liquid cools to room temperature.

What does egg curing mean
@MudSharkZ3 жыл бұрын
Treating trout or salmon eggs to make them more durable so you can use them for bait to catch more trout or salmon.
@takuache46923 жыл бұрын
Can they still hatch after you cure them
@MudSharkZ3 жыл бұрын
@@takuache4692 No, you are taking them out of a fish you catch, so they are unfertilized.
@takuache46923 жыл бұрын
@@MudSharkZ how do you make them fertilized I want them fertilized.
