It's a now neglected part of the hobby that is so rewarding to do, sure it can be expensive but going on from what Jon says, every purchase can be ultised for another project, it might be years down the line but that's how bits boxes are born Go to a discount store and buy a plastic hobby organiser, they're intended for screws or fishing tackle but it's a small box with tiny compartments that's fantastic for holding mini parts, even stuff you cut off, something you hacked off of a model can be reused later on something completely different Just try to hobby saw or cut off with a hobby knife as often as you can, snippers are the easiest sure, but snippers tend to destroy the thing if you have to be aggressive with it

Tip from my own kitbashing experience: Using sprue-goo to secure two pieces of a weapon together is fine, but nowhere near as good as the original bond or pinning. If the weapon pieces are too thin for paperclips, use sewing pins to for pinning; they have a small diameter and really bend resistant.

I just have a reel of thin metal wire (got it off my mother lmao) that's used in jewelery making, the added bonus is if I stick a bit of blue tac on the top of the reel, it's where the model can sit while I wait for the pin to finish drying Also if you're on a budget, I can't recommend milliput enough, it's dirt cheap, it's brittle when dry sure, but if you mix together some greenstuff and then mix that into some mixed milliput you can get much more mileage out of your sculpting material whilst giving the milliput some much needed flex and strength
@eastoforion2 жыл бұрын
sewing pins is a great tip, thank you!
@DragonSickness2 жыл бұрын
Jewelry wire and sewing pins are just fine but if you want the ultimate strength and thinness get some insect pins from bioquip. 0,00 and 000 size are good. Super thin but strong. They're for pinning tiny insects in collections.

Loving the recent kitbashing. Always unique and fun to see how it turns out. Hopefully we see it painted some day.
@Bluecho42 жыл бұрын
1) Sometimes, kitbashing isn't just desirable, but essential to having a complete model. I purchased an old metal Archon model for my Drukhari. I got it cheap, because it was missing the claw hand. In order to rectify this, I cut the power sword blade from the modern Kabalite Warriors kit, stuck it to a spare arm from the _old_ (3e) plastic Kabalite Warriors kit, and stuck that on. (I had to use these different parts, because basically all versions of Kabalites wield their melee weapons left-handed, whereas the melee arm that was missing from the Archon was right-handed). In the end, it turned out pretty good, and let me get a vintage metal model for way less than its complete version would cost on the secondary market. 2) In addition to custom bits sellers, one can always pillage bits from cheaper plastic kits. Particularly Historicals, as you tend to get A LOT of everything. Bodies, heads, weapon options, etc. Perry Miniatures is a great company for this, not only because of all their kits, but because they sell some sprues separately. So you can spend just a couple dollars for a sprue with tons of weapons and a few bodies. 3) Remember that if the model you're creating is a monstrous abomination, it doesn't matter what parts you use. If you've got 30 sword arms left over from a historical barbarians kit (that you naturally used for some Chaos Marauders), just glue them together into a sword-wielding arm spider. Make for great Chaos Spawn or other mutants. Maybe stick a dozen human heads, or one or two horse heads on there. When mutations or whatever (think a necromancer stitching together spare body parts into a zombie monster/Frankenstein) is involved, nothing is off limits.

An extra way I found that is really great for customizing minis is adding Trophies to the bases of my models. My Killteam had a skull or piece of enemy equipment destroyed for every big match up we had. Specially against the filthy Tau! It helped get more of a story goin on for my minis as well as adding "that touch" to make them Mine.

I personally enjoy that female armor SHOWS that it's female armor. In some fictions, female warriors prefer it that way so that everyone knows that they are indeed female. If sisters of battle were just regular power armor with girlish heads put on, they'd be boring. It isn't' sexualizing anything to have breast armor.

Don't use vaseline.. its a pain to clean... use Nivea (or any other mostly waterbased cream) instead. The water will evaporate and the residue will not cause paint chipping and the like. Also since its water based and greenstuff doesn't stick to water, it will keep your tools (and hands) from sticking and is so much less of a mess.
