Lexus lack an important feature, locking the door automatically after you leave the car. You have to use the remote or touch the handle. The car should lock the door automatically after it did not detect a key fob or phone connection nearby.

Yep, my dad got an iPad stolen because he thought the car would automatically lock when he walked away like every other luxury vehicle that’s designed properly. The other main issue I see is that you have to hit the lock button and some weird sequence to get the car remotely started in the winter time and then when you walk up to the car to open the door, it shuts off. it is supposed to the fob on me should not be a security feature. None of this makes sense, but nothing is perfect in life I guess but Lexus really needs to step up their game and catch up with the pack.

I’m sitting inside my 2006 Lexus is350 after breaking into it because the car didn’t recognize my fob sitting on the front seat so it locked itself. Been a feature since the early 2000’s not sure why yours isn’t offered. Strange.

Recent 2022 RX 350 fsport here. Surprised Lexus does not have the walk away and doors lock auto after a few feet or so. My Honda CRV had it and was a great feature. Now having to remember to lock every time I exit the Lexus.

My 2019 NX300 does not start with remote. I have tried many times with 2 press 3rd hold. Happens on my 2024 NX350 faultlessly though. It’s such a bummer.

Hi! Make sure to check the subscription status in your app for the 2019 NX. It is compatible, but will require an up to date Remote and possibly Safety Connect services for the remote start feature to connect with the vehicle. If your subscriptions are up to date and the remote is not working, reach out to your Lexus service department so they can open a ticket for you.

Any suggestions why my manual key wont go all the way in? My car battery died a couple months ago and fobs dont work either . 2007 gs lexus.

If flipping the manual key over the other direction doesn’t get it to work, I would try the metal key from the other fob. That year may also have still come with a valet key, and the valet key, if it had a manual component, might not be able to unlock the vehicle since it was not supposed to be able to access the glove box or trunk. If you can get the trunk open with the manual key from one of the main fobs, you could look for the pass through to the back seat and see if it is open. There should be an emergency release if it is not locked. That might help get you some access inside the vehicle. Best of luck with it.

Unfortunately technology changes very quickly now days and not all tips will work for all Lexus vehicles, but your vehicle may have similar functionality. You do have to look at your system and setup and see if it applies for you. I have a full tutorial for the 2020 RC and many of the features should apply to your 2016. There are also differences country to country, so please keep that in mind as well. Hi! Yes, you can use the manual key to lock the car from the driver's door handle emergency key cylinder. Hi! I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your key fob. When you have the smart key with you and you put your hand in the door handle, the vehicle should unlock. Hi @Jasvir, Happy to help. It sounds like the power setting for the rear door has been turned off. Here are the steps to follow to turn it back on: From the steering wheel: Use the left and right arrow buttons and the "dot" button to select. - Go left or right until you are on the Settings menu (with the Gear at the top) - Arrow down to highlight and open “Vehicle Settings” - Arrow down to highlight and open "PBD" (Power Back Door) - Toggle to select ON / OFF That should get it going :)

Hi Chey, If you have put the car in Park and turned off the vehicle, you should be able to lock the car with the lock button in the door handle and it should stay locked. If you put the car in Park, turn off the car, exit the vehicle and lock the car and it doesn't stay locked then you may have an additional key in the vehicle. Have you checked the pouch with the Owner's Manuals for the Wallet Key Card? That will prevent you from being able to lock the car. I hope this helps. Thanks for being here.

Can you show a video for lexus rx350 2009? I got this car used and the current autounlocking settings are really dangerous, but I can't get them to change using the instructions in the manual (turn key to on position, within ten seconds shift to park or neutral and hold the drivers side control panel lock in lock position for 5 seconds).

Hi! In the US the 2018 NX is compatible for a Lexus retrofit for Apple CarPlay. Lexus did not release an Android Auto retrofit in the US, but it may be available in some other countries.

How do you lock using the door handles while also making sure the daytime running lights turn off as well?

Hi! When you touch the indentation at the front of the door handle (it can be a black touch pad on some older year models), it will lock the car. Then the headlights, including the Daytime Running Lights will turn off automatically based on the timer setting you have customized. The default is 30 seconds. I hope this helps. Hi Michael, Usually items are grayed out if the car is in motion or if another feature is preventing you from doing the other thing you want to do at the same time. Here are some things to check: make sure the car is turned on and not just in accessory mode, make sure the car is in Park, do not plug anything into a USB ports - they are linked to the audio and multi-media systems. Thank you for such a helpful video. Learning a lot. Question i have is that my 2022 gx460 locks all doors when putting to P, but the moment i turn the vehicle off, it unlocks all doors. I really dont like this setting. How can one go about changing this setting? So for instance, i come home to park in my garage, put it to P, doors are all still locked, turn off the car, all doors unlock. I want it stay locked even after turning the car off and only unlock when prompting to manually open the drivers side for safety reasons.

Hi! I like to change this setting also. Here’s how: Setup > Vehicle > Vehicle Customization > Door Lock Settings > Auto Unlock by Shift to Park > Turn the feature Off. That should do it for you 👍

@@willbill2209 Hi Will, That is interesting. Technically having the doors unlock when the car is turned off, is not an option you can select form the customization screen in the car. Perhaps it was customized through the computer with a Technician at your Lexus dealership? They have access to a lot of additional settings. Hi Devin, Yes, you can use the metal mechanical key to lock the vehicle manually form the key cylinder in the driver's door handle while the engine is running. Make sure to take the key fob with you. Do not leave it in the vehicle. When you are ready to unlock the car, you will need to unlock with the mechanical key as well, because you are overriding the smart access system when you lock manually. I hope this helps. HI Linda, Check the video at 4:22 for the section about Automatic Door Unlock and turn the feature off, instead of "By shift to Park." Then your doors will stay lock when you shift out of gear and into Park. Hope this helps.

Hi John, The relock timer is for when you unlock the car and do not open a door, then the car will re-lock itself. The Lexus Personalized Settings on your year model can be changed at your Lexus dealership by a Technician. It requires a computer connection and the software they use to access the vehicle systems. Hi @Kagisho! That's interesting. Do you have the Smart Access System on all the doors? Or just the front? It's possible that the build is different here. I can only see the US and Canada manuals so I'm not able to look up the information for South Africa. Do you have the manual? Check in the door lock setting section and in the Customizable Settings section (way at the back). Fingers crossed. It is a nice feature. If you don't have it, then use the key fob and double click the unlock button. That's the fastest way I think :) If you don't have Smart Access, then the buttons on the key fob are the best way to go :)

Hi Eletha, Lexus doesn't offer retrofit updates for that feature. Unfortunately they have to be built with them at the factory. I'm not sure about aftermarket options. I know that in the US we have three language choices, English, Spanish and French, but nothing else is possible. Do you have a Language customization in the MID and in the Setup menu for your Lexus? If so, the languages listed there are the only options for that vehicle based on how they program them from the factory. I hope this helps.

Hi AJ sorry for the delay. I was doing some research for you to get the most accurate answer. I reached out to some of my Lexus gurus to confirm this. Unfortunately the first year that the power open from the tailgate button customization was added was 2018. This is everything listed for your vehicle's Lexus Personalized Settings: www.lexus.com/documents/brochures/service/LX570_LPS.pdf Scroll down to #42, 43 and 44. Those are the only available customizations. Apparently the history of this is that Guests wanted a way to manually open the back door in tight spaces, like lower ceiling garages. Hi Stephanie. That's a great question. I've been with Lexus for 21 years and we have never had an auto lock feature, except for an "auto relock" timer that relocks the doors if you've unlocked them on the key fob and then you don't open a door. For example if you click the unlock button, then don't open any doors for some reason, all the door will relock after the selected time. But one a door has been opened the car will remain unlocked until you lock it. Hope this helps :)

Hi! Lexus has a 2018 GS450h or an ES 300h, but in the US there isn't a GS300h so I'm not able to see anything on that model configuration. Sorry about that. All 2018 models will have customizable door lock settings though. They should be able to print a PDF for you, but they will need to make the adjustments for you since the system does not have those setting accessible in vehicle for you to change yourself. Is there a solution to customize the remote control sitting. I want to start the car by 3 times lock button but, I don’t want to turn the car off when I open the door. Also, if I can control the windows by opening. (Lexus ES 2020) Thank you

Hi Ali, Thanks for checking in. Currently only the 2022 NX has the ability to stay running when you open a door after a remote start. All other current and previous models are designed to turn off with any attempt to open the vehicle. The customization to power open the windows with the key fob can be made at your Lexus dealership in the Service Department. Hope you have a great day!

Cant access vehicle customisation on my RX.. it's there but will not let me select.

Hi @C_S Make sure you have the vehicle in Park and turned on, not in accessory mode. Also, some features are also not available when you are on a Bluetooth phone call. Hope this helps.
