Great video, but I can confirm solder wick is the way to go. I followed the same steps you took but I wrecked one of my traces, luckily I was able to run a jumper wire.

This video makes this look pretty easy but to the average person this is a real mf to do successfully lol, I’d pay you to do mine before attempting. I’ve done a little soldering with car amps and stuff and I know how tough it was and these parts are even more precise..

Fork work better then try spoons.... It really does. And positive is the notched corner. Or on regular LEDs. The resistor side is positive

Do not de-solder components like that, you may pull the pads out and destroy the board. The best way to remove a component os to add more solder until both sides connect and melt. Than you clean the area with solder wick. The bigger the tip of the soldering iron the easier is to remove a component. I prefer using the tip that look like a flat head.

I would agree with that method if it was only a single pin going through the board, but with multiple pins like the LCD screen I feel like the only way to get it completely loose from the board is to use the suction gun to desolder all the pins

@@RKMotorsports I've done multi-pin TH and SMD components by just flooding the pins with solder. When you get the hang of pulling components like that you won't look back hahaha. I do agree that the gun made the clean up a lot easier. But you can get a similar result by using flux and solder wick. And before I sound negative. I enjoyed your video!! I am just trying to help by suggesting a better method of removing components from the board.

To make this job easier in the future, see if you can get some computer solder. It's a thinner wire of solder like Angel hair.

If you dont have a vacuum solder - get a twist of 1mm multi strand copper wire and it soaks it up
