Dear James, great video, I appreciate there is final look included also, big thumbs up! I can't find videos, how to cut bob/long bob on thick and heavy hair. Any cuts on heavy and thick hair are my nightmare as I am shortly after course.I know there aren't mannequins with this type of hair...Thanks, good luck, greetings from Czech republic. Simona

Hey Simona, thank you for your message. Congratulations on completing your course. So exciting. Hairdressing is an on going Learning Process, And youtube is an incredible recourse. A few tips regarding Thick Hair : The most important part of doing a haircut is your consultation and recommendation. Not all hair types or face shapes will suit all hairstyles. Its our job to recommend and educate your client on what haircut is most suitable for their hair type and face shape. With super thick hair and having a bob, i always educate the client on how it will or won't work for them first. If the persist id then think of techniques like inverted layers to reduce weight from the internal shape (inverted layers and reverse layers). In the back section of this video it will give you an idea of inverted layers kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJPap32NbNqdatE I hope this helped

What would the effect be if you were to continue taking sections as travelling sections, as opposed to over-directing each section back to the previous? I’m thinking it would form a one length perimeter, as opposed to an-a line perimeter, which is longer at the sides than the back.
@HairByJamesAnnabel4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Square shapes are used to maintain the length in the sides (corners) that's what makes the shape square. And yes it will create a straight line, as squares have straight lines. If you follow the head shape you will create a round layer. Does this help at all ? Check out my round layered tutorial and you'll see the difference between square and round.

Thank you for this video. I'd love to see the square cut layers on shorter hair, just above shoulder length? I'm doing my own and it's difficult to get the right tension and such, but if i could see a visual of hair close to my actual length, I know it would help me! Just a suggestion; (i have a channel too and i certainly can't make videos for everything people ask. 🙂)
@HairByJamesAnnabel2 жыл бұрын
Hey She Paints, thanks for your comment. No matter what your hair length is, the process is exactly the same. Good luck cutting Square layers yourself, sadly it's not possible. You wont be able to achieve accurate elevation or distribution cutting yourself. I love your videos... And here it comes a question, is it the same result when you take the hair from the sides up than sideways ? I have saw another tutorial, square layers but pulling the hair sideways instead of up like these one.
@HairByJamesAnnabel2 жыл бұрын
Hey Luigina Bustillos, great question. Square layered haircuts can be cut in multiple ways. Our sectioning wether its vertical like in this tutorial or horizontal will both create a square layered haircut. The difference will be the internal layers, vertical sections create weightless layers, your'e in complete control of how the layers fall vertically. Horizontal sections create width and sharpness, layering with horizontal sections (from side to side) will create shorter layers in the crown. Diagonal sections always create softness. I hope that answered your question. In the link below is another approach to square layering. It is really confusing when learning, because there are so many different ways to create square layers, how ever the Elevation and Sectioning Angles will always create a different effect (same same but different). Here is an old (bad) tutorial cutting long square layers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5abXoB8hsRgaM0 I mainly only cut my square layers like this tutorial below ( you will find your favourite technique or you will use them all as tools to create shapes or reduce weight when you need to) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGbOlGxrh791g5Y

When people come in and say they want layers, how do you know what type to do? Is this considered a “long” layered cut?
@HairByJamesAnnabel2 жыл бұрын
Hey Hannah, thanks for your question. When choosing what type of layer i'm going to use, i'll consider the clients hair length and thickness first and then also ask what they do and dont like about their existing shape. From the response and also knowing what hair i have to work with i will choose what type of layer or what combinations of different techniques i will need to use to achieve the desired result. Square layers create an even layer through out the shape, maintaining corners. Round layers are shorter in the front and longer in the back (because of our natural hairline sits lower in the back). And triangular layers are the opposite of round. Generally speaking i use Triangular and Square when cutting long layers. I hope this made sense and answered your question. This tutorial may also help kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5CYaoRpqamfpac

Why can't I find anybody to cut my hair like this? I even show them videos. They pointcut my fine thin hair then pointcut after..EVEN THOUGH IM SAYING WTF ARE YOU DOING? Making my hair short and thin. I started out with 30" all one length. It was beautiful but I needed a change. I just wanted some layers some bounce. Now three beauticians and $400 later my F hair is too short to measure and cut like a five YO did it! I have been to many salons in my life and always go home crying. They always claim they know what they are doing and fail me every time.
