When applying the whitening shampoo apply it first to the stained areas. With WookiDog, I apply it on her feet and then spread it around into a lather. If I start by applying to the leg and lather it spreading to the foot then it won't be as effective. The pigment is what gives the illusion of whitening the area, making a lather that you spread out just dilutes it.

There's a way to use the slicker brush, by parting any section of hair and brushing fast as you work your way upwards. It removes all the tiny hairs that cause mats, so you won't have to use the larger tool that affects the length.

Yes I get rid of knots first, I noticed my dog has same problem as yours with ear thank you for your video. I find I have to brush and comb, every day less stress on my girl

Welcome to the Malshi Dog KZbin channel 😀 I've been grooming my Malshi dog at home for the last four-plus years. It's taken some time but now my dog Wookie can relax and trusts me to groom her. In the video, I've tried to talk you through the entire process and I've included tips on how to make grooming your dog at home easier. I find all you do so helpful!!! Not to mention enjoyable! BIGGEST issue is tear staining- I am now using “HALO” dog food- supposedly for tear stains.I use filtered water and ANGEL EYES wiped. He’s so beautiful. The tear stains are very insightly😵‍💫 any tips anyone???

Why is Wookiedog so precious and calm? My Malshi is HYPER ( 14 weeks old )- eats brushes, chews comb, wiggles all over 😩 Too young for rabies shot so I have to wait for a pro groomer. You are, without a doubt, a wonderful pet owner. Only one other person I see that is as amazing is the lady from “Shih Tzus are the best” channel

@@TracvM320 We used a groomer when Wookie was young, he always shaved her short. Maybe Wookie is also calm with me because she's had the experience of another person grooming her and I'm a bit more generous with the cuddles lol Also as I said in the video, recreating grooming positions when you give the dog a pat can slowly teach them to settle during grooming.

Use a loofah to spread shampoo this will increase blood flow and help remove dead skin, also dry Wookie with a chamois they are amazing at drying and save time drying.

A loofah changed the shampoo process for me. I got the idea off a groomers channel and it really takes a lot less shampoo when you use a loofah. And cleans them so well. I think my Bella loves it so much more now

Beautiful girl Wookie. My little one doesn’t like being groomed around eyes or face. I use round ended scissors in that area just in case he moves, which he often does. I think I end up more traumatised than him..😆

Lol yep, you can't get upset with the dog for moving around. I want to buy some rounded scissors just for around the eyes. At least now she seems to understand when to stay still.

How do you make your dog stay so calm?

Gets better over the years. Try keeping the grooming quick, spread it out over a few days. Give praise, scratches, and cuddles throughout. Wookie knows she'll get a really big scratch and pat session after the trim. Have treats ready, give a treat every few minutes. Try to work with the dogs position. I'll trim one side, if she leans that way to stop me I'll then swap to the other side. Just try to make it fun, and do it frequently so it becomes the norm.

I really enjoyed your video and your dog. I have a Malachi girl. She hates grooming. She’s gotten hurt and mistreated at the groomer’s. I know she’s aggressive and hard to groom, but I don’t want her mistreated. Therefore, I’m learning myself. I do it a bit at a time. We’re both learning to be patient and get it done. I love your orange brush. Will you share the brand name with me please? I can’t find it. Thanks.

I cant find the same brush any more. Closest i can find would be Hertzko Dog Brush - Soft Pin Bristle or Emours Pet Rubber Grooming Brush would do a similar job. Both aren't as small though

I love this video! I know nothing about grooming my Malshi so I was taking in every second. Do you wipe the area around her nose and mouth every day. My girl dislikes it, but she get food on her hair. Brushing seems to hurt.

I only really touch her face if she has some gunk near her eye's or if hair is getting near her eyes. I do brush her nose carefully and yes she doesn't like that either. Just important to keep hair away from the eyes by either brushing or cutting the hair shorter. I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)

How did you teach Wooki to sit still while grooming her?

I tend to reward her with treats. I normally spend equal time giving scratches and praise as I do grooming. I think she's also smart enough to understand that if a camera is pointed at her it's time to perform lol Be good = rewards has been easy to teach her.

It really depends on how active your dog is and how often they're washed. Short daily brushes would make it easier to maintain. The longer the period between each brush results in more knots. If you can make the brush routine fun it will be easier to brush the dog. Daily brushing might get too much for yourself and the dog. I aim for a few times a week and a wash at least once a month.
