It is historically accurate getting rid of the feathers

@@matthewkane502yeah they sort of get in the way, i keep them so it looks cute but for convenience a bamboo dip pen is nice because of the lack of feather.

How was the pen held in the hand, cut side up or cut side down?
@CarlWinter-oy8uf8 ай бұрын
I have asked this question dozens of times --no answer ! ---HOW DOES THE INK STAY INSIDE /ON THE NIB )))---DO U YOU ADD A BIT OF FOAM ---(capillary action ) or metal in the quill hollow bit ?
@RedShadow33337 ай бұрын
This type of pen is meant to be consistently re-dipped as the ink runs out. Usually one dip will last for roughly one to five sentences depending on the length of sentence, size of script, and width of the pen tip. The broader the tip width, the faster the ink will run out. It’s a type of dip pen, not a fountain pen. The ‘fountain’ pen gets its name partly because of its re-fillable design for holding ink, which was considered a major innovation in the late 1800s. Modern pens reflect a further development of that innovation.

when you scoop it out you don’t carve it completely flat it’s at a curve so the ink stays in the area as long as you don’t jerk it around like crazy

I'll give it a go. I did one and it was fine but now it only works upside down or I get 2 lines. Lucky I have a 7 year old who picks up every feather he sees. Loads of practice pieces. Just don't tell him.

I think that you should have kept some of the fledgling part of the feather because thats what it a quill pen.
@nitebreak5 ай бұрын
if it’s a long feather i carve like 1/3 of the feather part off so it has a nice area to grip and then i trim the rest of it into a nice looking shape.

Please don't. Eagle feather is sacred. Not just pretty (or symbol of power or something). Feathers are an earned honor or a gift from family or Heaven. (& technically you could get in several kinds of trouble - since eagles are still fairly rare if not everywhere officially listed any more as endangered. The feathers are Reserved for communities of Native Americans, given as rare and needed gifts, used in ceremonies and dance gatherings and For Freedom of Religion, family continuity, .... not just decoration.
