After 7 months this is still the best method for ripping tapers that I have found. So easy, so quick, no jig needed - just outstanding!

Easy enough. Presented simply and clearly; should keep me from overthinking and confusing myself. Thanks for the instruction.

Thanks a bunch - had to cut a 7/16" taper over a 60" long board - worked like a charm - However, I had set up my saw before I cut the 7/16 spacer and didn't want to re-set it again. so substituted a round head screw close to the end, on the edge of the board. Thanks again, wish I had known it before - was so easy doing it your way. AND no $$ spent, or time wasted hunting down or making a taper jig.

Clever and simple approach, but maybe safety could be improved by 1) attaching a block to the guide board so that it could be clamped to the fence (and thereby reduce risk of it moving during the cut) and 2) using a push block like Grrriper to move the piece past the saw blade.

Great tip for tapers. Unlike many other tapering jigs this does not require placing the workpiece on top of the jig which reduces the depth of the table saw cut by the thickness of the board used for the jig. Thanks.

Very good idea on making long tapers, all other videos I seen show cutting tapers on short boards and on a 3/4 plywood. I like your idea best, thanks for posting....

So grateful for this video. I needed a 3/16 taper over about three feet to help make the edge of a drawer slide parallel. This did the trick super simply and expensively. Worked like a charm. By far the best and easiest solution I found for my specific situation.

This is no doubt the best woodworking trick I ever learn. I tried it this morning to cut the tapered legs for a vintage style desk I am making for my wife and it worked just GREAT. I was going to build a jig for such cuts but won't anymore. This trick is cost-effective, easy to use, reliable and won't take a valuable space hung at a wall of my shop.

Technically a long subfence or a block to skew a workpiece is a jig. google definition #2 anything that holds a workpiece or guides a tool. The long straight subfence is essential so workpiece shim block assembly is registered against a fence throughout the cutting process

Is this the best and safest way to do this? I’ve been trying to sand a taper into strips on the belt sander and it takes way too much time and effort and too much sawdust. I’m new to the table saw though so I’m hoping this is a good option for me.
