However, I'm trying to figure out how to go about upholstering a mid century kitchen banquette i've been building myself. So I don't have any existing patterns to trace the new fabric with. There's lots of good content on youtube for RE upholstering things, but I can't find very much info on upholstering new furniture. Any advice would be super helpful! Hi Steven! Sorry for the delayed reply! Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot. I’m always learning new tricks too, I don’t think you ever really stop learning in this trade. It’s a Typical GC6-7. It doesn’t have any of added extras like thread cutting and auto backwind but it does the job for me and I’m happy with it and not had any issues. Thanks again Steven 😊👍🏻

Thanks Emily. Always cut piping on the bias\angle. And I tend to cut it about 4.5 - 5cm wide. 🙏☺️📌🪡🧵✂️

Love the video. I just finished sewing my cording and it took all day for two chairs. I used my zipper foot. Can you make a video about buttons. I made #30 prong back buttons and I am wondering why everyone doesn’t use them. I haven’t started reconstruction yet.

Hey! Sorry for the delayed response! If you find prong back buttons easier to use then, go for it! I find buttons with twine easier to use with chesterfields or other sofas/chairs with button backs as the prong backs can sometimes pop out. But for headboards etc where you’re attaching the prong backs to wood then they would fit securely. But they are useful to use in places where it’s hard to fit other types of buttons e.g inside arms. But whatever you find easier and works for you is great 😊👍🏻

Hi Harvey! Upholstery thread is more heavy duty than the average sewing thread as upholstery fabrics are thicker and heavier. I use 36 and 40 thread size. Hope that helps 😊👍🏻

Any tips for sewing velvet? I'm using linwood omega on a sofa and its moving quite a lot as I'm sewing the boxing even with a walking foot. Even with pins every inch its shifting enough to cause the occasional pucker. Only using a domestic machine though so the walking foot is just an attachment and won't be as efficient as the foot you're using at moving the fabric through. Wondered about using temporary fabric glue on the seams before sewing? Any help appreciated! Maybe just need to buy a heavy duty machine!

Hi Sarah! It might be the domestic machine is causing issues with the velvet moving but a few tips I could give you are to staple the fabric together before sewing (using a domestic stapler, not a staple gun!) which should stop it moving so much and also holding the fabric either side of the foot as you’re moving the fabric through...so essentially you’re moving the fabric through the machine rather than the machine doing it all. I hope this makes sense and is of some help!

Hi Stephanie! It’s called ‘Omari Spa’ by Ashley Wilde - it’s a standard upholstery fabric in velvet. It’s a lovely fabric and one of the more reasonably priced velvet options 😊👍🏻
