Thank you so very much. I've sewn since I was a pre-teen, even winning a Singer sewing contest & making my wedding gown. It's been many years so I came here for tips on making cushions. I didn't realize that I really came here for a little confidence boost that you provided me & probably others. I appreciated you admitting that some areas can be difficult but we all have to start somewhere. Those are words to live by and I hope they resonate with your viewers. It was very kind of you to take the time to share your knowledge and I wanted to thank you. BTW. Great job on the chair.

Your video has been so helpful. I've also taught myself to sew, using countless KZbin videos. I'm now making a fitted foam cushion cover, with piping and a zip. I was initially so overwhelmed and unsure whether I'd be able to pull it off, but your video gave me confidence and I'm now attaching the border and zip to the facings. Thanks so much for wanting to give back and well done on teaching yourself! I pray that your business is thriving in 2023!! 🙏🏻

I love your videos! ❤❤I am getting back into upholstery after a 20 year break from it. These KZbin things did not exist "back in the day", and I cannot believe how awesome it is to use these to up my game! During my long sabbatical I took up quilting. I have been stealing some of my quilting techniques and using them in my upholstery projects. One thing you might consider - when "joining" your piping raw edges, cut the folded end at a 45 degree angle. It will reduce the bulk of fabric at the join, and give you much less of an obvious bump. If you have thick, stubborn fabric (I did a couch with dog-proof fabric, and ugh - super difficult), use a glue stick to "baste" that angled fold in place while you stitch. OR...another option is to baste the piping at the join with a stapler. Yeah! A standard, light weight desk stapler. Who woulda thunk it?? The staple never hurts anything because it's buried in the seam. I got that from another KZbinr, and thought it was insane. Staples in your CUSHION? Sounds like staples in your bum. But it works. You probably don't need these types of tricks, since you have an awesome machine and you do this full time, but those of us who do this as a hobby or are just getting started might need some help keeping that fabric and piping lined up just perfect 🙂

I like your style of quick, not long-winded! People can pause and re-watch, which I do on most tutorials anyway. I was wondering-- did you use single welt foot for the zip or a zipper foot? And where do you start sewing the welt on the facing, on the front or around the side? Thanks!
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Audrie, sorry for the delay in replying. Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it 😊🙏🏻 I used a single welt foot for the zip and I start sewing the welt on the facing at the back where the join is going to be as it looks much better if the join is around the back of the cushion so it’s hidden - I hope that helps 👍🏻

Hi Susan! I take the finish size of the boarder and half it then I add an inch and a quarter (half inch for sewing and then 3/4 inch for folding for the zip). And obviously you have two of them for the zip. Hope this makes sense 😊

Hello! I just loved watching your video and I have sewed new pillows and done dining room chair upholstery; getting a new cushion and putting the fabric on perfectly. I want to see what I am capable of and put myself out there to help anyone in need of upholstery. I was wondering if you could give me a price how much you would charge to make box cushions for a customer? Also I don't see a link for what piping you use.
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thank you for watching, it means a lot 😊 send me a message on Instagram if you can and I’ll talk you through how I price. The piping I use comes directly from an upholstery supplies so I don’t have a link but it’s 5mm smooth. Hope that helps 👍🏻

Hi Neil, what thread do you use and do you. use a size 4 zip. I love watching your video I have learnt a lot . Thank you for sharing 🙏do you always wrap your cushions with wadding / Dacron?

Ahh thanks. Yes always wadding on cushions and then stocking net. I think I use a size 3 zip to be honest. 🙏🙌👍🧵📐✂️⛏️🪡

Very laid out tutorial please what fabric type was this? I’m looking to upholstery my IKEA sofa and I’m thinking of using velvet material any recommendations?
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi James! This fabric was a linen look type fabric by Linwood, it’s called ‘Pronto’. Velvets can come up really nice 👍🏻 Warwick Fabrics do a lovely velvet range called ‘Plush’, which are reasonably priced. Make sure the pile in the velvet is facing the same way when upholstering the different sections otherwise it can look very different if the piles are facing opposite ways 😊👍🏻 Good luck with your sofa, let me know how you get on!
