Cost of a cutting guide is the same as what I payed for my new handlebars. Every youtube video uses a cutting guide. Great.

Sometimes it's cheaper and faster to pay a bike shop to handle the job.

A hose clamp works good enough as a guide when cutting with a hack saw.

The cutting guide tool prevents slippage which the hose clamp and zip ties can't prevent if it should occur.

The SG-7.2 appears to be the most versatile of the three saw guides, yet it is the same price as the SG-6 and SG-8. Why would I choose either of the latter two over the SG-7.2?
@adsteel3 ай бұрын
Now the SG-7.2 is cheaper than th SG-6, so I'm wondering the same.

What type of foaming cleaner do you recommend?

rotary pipe cutters normally turn so the tension knob is going forward around the tube being cut.

Way way cheaper and much cleaner cut. This seems like a huge pain in the butt

What was the blue hand tool you used after filing the end of the handlebar? It looked like some sort of sanding device.

Can you make the same cut to shorten a seat post? Are there any consideration that are special? Like the amount of overlap of the post within the frame or anything else?
@parktool5 жыл бұрын
Yes this process can apply to cutting a seat post. Before cutting, measure up to the "Minimum Insertion" line. Use the distance after cutting for the new min line, possibly with a piece of tape. But regardless of what the post indicates, have the end of the post below any joint (weld or bonding) where the top tube meets the seat tube.

Can a tubing cutter be used to cut carbon fiber handle bars?
@parktool3 жыл бұрын
No, a tubing cutter should not be used on carbon fiber.

THAT'S the tool Park Tool came up with to cut bars? Seems like a plumbing tube cutter would make a much cleaner and even cut - rather than using a HACKSAW LOL

What’s the right tightness for a hacksaw blade? How bendy should it be if at all?
@parktool5 жыл бұрын
If you use two fingers to deflect the blade and it deflects over 5mm then you need more tension.

Can we fix the 105 crankset on press fit bottom bracket?? I have Fuji Roubaix 1.3 which had press fit bottom bracket now I want to install Shimano 105 cranck set. Let me know how do I go ahead. Thanks
@NeutralGenericUser3 жыл бұрын
idk if you ever got an answer to this, but of course it depends on what kind of press fit bottom bracket your bike supports. If it supports Shimano Hollowtech 2 Press Fit bottom brackets, then yes. I have that exact setup on my Giant Fastroad Advanced 1 (Press Fit BB + R7000 105 Crankset)

old locks from lock on grips work pretty well for a few cuts, but they are typically Aluminum and do not resist a stray saw blade very well.

Yeah, disc cutter. Why not? I guess you may not want it heating up? May damage the paint finish perhaps? Would be good to know a definite reason for not using one, for those who can.
