That is one of the differences between barbers and cosmetologist. I have experience in cosmetology and I took a long break. I'm about to study for boards and reinstate my license. Barbers amaze me with cutting techniques. I would like to get a dual license sometime in the future. There is so much in men's hair that most people just don't know. Of course us women folk like our hairdo's too. I would love to learn the basics about African American hair. It's just not taught in depth at most cosmetology schools. It's also hard for white hair stylist to learn due to resources. I have a genuine interest in learning all hair textures. I may not be an expert but I do want to provide a basic cut and service. I hate the idea of turning clients away. I'd probably refer something complicated to another stylist but just knowing and expanding skills is a good thing .

at some point you would have to trim the top because it gets too long. How would you approach that? Cause every barber i have been with starts combing my hair and then user a clipper to turn it into a round shape. which makes no sense to me for two reasons. first being the model isnt supposed to be round. Its more of an upside down triangle. Second i have curls that will come back in an hour or two after combing it or after applying a product. So once its back in its normal state, with the shrinkage my hair ends up completely uneven and just weird looking. Why not just use siscors while the hair is in the state it will be worn in

Most African Americans will never have scissor over comb done to their hair. I guess if it's an afro you could but that takes so long so I don't do it. But if you are referring to straight hair customers I have videos teaching how to use scissors over comb.

My man keeps coming home every two weeks annoyed by whoever cut his hair. Hasn’t been able to find one that doesn’t do him damn dirty so at this point I’m just here to figure out what the hell is going wrong for these barbers. If I can somehow figure this out for him I can be much help as a woman in the house haha
