Great video! Do you think this cutter would work for hardmilling knife blades? I'm thinking of trying something like S30V.

The DIJET cutter should work well in S30V. Just make sure to choose the appropriate insert whether you're machining it in a soft or hard state.

Hello David 326, with the long arbor and the DiJet cutting head you have about 3.875" of reach on a vertical wall.

Why not run coolant on this steel cut ?
@noelbressan8097
@noelbressan8097 6 жыл бұрын
On High Feed mills and most tools cutting with lots of surface speed and also hard machining coolant can cause a thermal shock at the cutting edge because of the very high temperatures appearing while cutting. The carbide can handle very high heat but cracks from the thermal shock when the coolant reaches the hot spot.

Heat doesn't cause work hardening, in fact it relieves it. The myth comes from the fact that cutting work hardened surfaces generates more heat.
@grinchyface
@grinchyface 5 жыл бұрын
Yes it does. D2 tool steel? Air hardening. You get the surface where the tooth is meeting the material up to 1200 degrees, and suddenly it's 55 rockwell c. Inconel? Same thing. The annealing temperatures for these materials are far far higher than their hardening temperatures, and they require precisely controlled conditions to actually get annealed- far more precise than the hardening temperatures.
