How to Cut Holes with CNC | Tormach

For today’s how to video, we demonstrate several different ways to cut holes onto a part using PathPilot’s conversational mode, and an end mill. Jason first starts out with a circular pocketing routine, then he goes on to a thread milling cycle. Finally, he ends with a pocket perimeter to clean up the hole.

Jason... The thread milling routine looks pretty smooth... Can't wait to try it... Also I can't tell you how many tools and parts I have saved by using the technique you taught us in class 2 years ago to drop the sliders to zero and make sure everything looks good while slowly increasing the feed and velocity.. That technique alone has no doubt saved me the the price of the class. Thanks again..

How accurately can this machine interpolate round holes? +/- .001? If so I’m ready to order one.

Hello Jacob, The roundness of an interpolated hole is greatly influenced by the setup of the machine. If the machine is not properly leveled the roundness tolerance will go up. We are shooting a video series on this subject now to explain and show how the machine setup affects the overall accuracy. Stay tuned or subscribe to get notified when these videos get posted.
