Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I need parts cut longer (but not wider) than my ShapeOko 3 XL bed for a project I’m working on. I was looking for a CNC router shop to do it but I get no return calls. Now I can do it myself - great job Jonathan. Probably the most useful KZbin video I’ve seen this year - and a great explanation as well.

As I have yet to venture into the CNC world of witchcraft and wizardry, just about everything in this video flew right over my head. However, if I ever make that jump, the "cutting bigger than your CNC table" will stick with me and I can refer back to this video for the details. Thanks. (Video saved to my tool builds list).

Nice technique, I saw Shaun refer to this. from what I can tell this IS a technique that the software understands. I can certainly see for simple large shapes how it might be faster once you have a master template to just use a tracing bit and batch them out, but this is definitely a useful tool to have in your back pocket.

Yeah I have the next wave and use vectric aspire for my cnc. I think I like the setup on that software a bit better. No need for translating to g-code, you just save the tool.path straight from aspire or vcarve and take to cnc, clamp it right and set z height and zero position and run. That being said that is my nemesis I have broken a few bits that way, and yes i am a total newbie with cnc. But i like it
@katzmosestools5 жыл бұрын
That's literally the same with fusion. Vectric is great for engraving. After that Fusion isn't even playing the same game much less in the same league as vetric and vcarve. It's like vetric (great for beginners so I'm not knocking it) is a go go power wheel and fusion is a Mazerati. I highly suggest taking the time to learn it. It'll change your world. Theres a great class on slillshare called learning fusion in 30 days that I highly reccomend. It's free and soooooooooooooooooooooooo powerful

why are you drilling holes with a down cut bit? that can actually start a fire due to friction
@katzmosestools3 жыл бұрын
Maybe if you were using it as a drill but those holes are larger than the bit. The bit is being used the same way it would elsewhere to clear material. The only difference is it does it in a circular manner. Plus, realistically, I don't know anyone who would take the time to change and re-zero their bit for such a short operation.

Instead of setting you Z=0 at the top of your workpiece, set Z=0 at the top of your spoilboard. Stock material can vary slightly in thickness and if you set your Z for the top of the spoilboard you don't have to worry about these variances. (Just don't forget to set the Z=0 in Fusion by selecting the material corner's BOTTOM node and not the top node.)

I know this is pedantic, but I wish we'd stop calling things "a CNC". CNC is an adjective that stands for Computer Numerical Control. You have CNC routers, CNC mills, CNC machining centers, etc. Technically, laser cutters, and 3d printers are CNC devices. In this case, it's "CNC router bed" or "CNC router capacity" or "CNC router working area" (Shapeoko, X-Carve, etc. are CNC routers)
@Psychlist19725 жыл бұрын
@@Marcels-Workshop It's an important distinction, though. Folks look to you for info as someone with knowledge in this area. It would be awesome if the info was more correct so people would use the right terminology and not end up looking ignorant if they apply for a job in this field, or end up talking to a machinist.
