Good ideas here that I found (the "nail hack" for the correct cut out levelling - hence the "saw dusted material" lost during the cut). I am just into putting together Metod sink cabinet. It is flush to the left and all the piping (water and sink) arrives from the left side wall. Obviously I will have to cut (out) the left side piece but my question targets the insertion of the back panel, towards the wall. Since in such occasions you are assembling the cabinet "in place" there obviously is no way you can nail that back panel in place. How "unimportant" is this considering the stiffness of the whole cabinet once fastened to the other(s) sideways and covered/screwed with worktop ? oooops....just discovered: how in the world would you be able to slide in the back panel when you have the rail bracket screwed in ???
@kitchensbyrannes11 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. As long as the sink cabinet is sitting next to at least one other cabinet, omitting the nails isn't an issue. Sliding in the back is easy as I do it before I put on the left side of the cabinet.

that's really impressive in how simple that is! I think I've got a few ideas of how to do it, but it might be nice if you showed your technique on how you're copying the position of the pipe holes
@kitchensbyrannes6 ай бұрын
@@JimShealy Thanks Jim. I hear you. I simply measure from the panel I clamped onto the corner cabinet to the center of the pipes and again from the wall to the center. The last measurements must be reduced by about ½" as that's the distance from the wall to the cabinet. Thanks for bringing this up ☺️

@kitchensbyrannes I tried it and it worked pretty great! I think I found a potential improvement to the rear panel. I had to get mine around a drain pipe, so what I did was to use a saw to score straight down from both sides of the pipe hole, leaving enough thickness the white face panel is uncut. On one side (from the back) I cut through the score with a razor blade. The other sides' score acts as a hinge. You can now bend the hinge enough to get around the pipe and then push it back in place. It leaves almost no trace once you put it back, and there's no gap! Hope that's useful to someone!

Sounds great 😃 Yeah, who knows, maybe someone will replicate your technique ☺️ I've tried something similar but with only little success.

Nice! I have to tackle sink cabinet soon with existing pipes. But I will have to perform some modifications since new undermount sink with be 10 inches deep and raise up the p trap since it's to low to have pull out drawer. Add to that, I switch the dishwasher to the left making more work. It's looks professional the way you're showing. Anyhow I'm having fun with this big Ikea project specially first time installing it and discover greatness of Ikea kitchen. So if we don't nail nor glue the backboard, I could reuse the existing one and don't bother to cut, right? Thanks!
@kitchensbyrannes Жыл бұрын
If you are replacing an older Ikea cabinet with a new one, and it sits in the EXACT same position, true, you can jump the fence where it is the lowest, but why would you? If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right, and in my book, "cannot be bothered" is never a valid reason to cut corners. So....just do it :-) But, if the pipes are the same, maybe using the old back as a template, huh?
@rjn51236 ай бұрын
This is great! You are very good. What if I have to do the same but my pipes come in from vertical wall. And the cabinet back wall is a thin cardboard as you know.
@kitchensbyrannes6 ай бұрын
Thanks. In those situations I assemble the cabinet in place too. One side and the bottom. The I push the back in, towards the pipes and mark their heights and horizontal distance and then cut horizontal openings from one side to the respective pipes. If they sit up in the cabinet, you won't notice them as sink and plumbing will cover. That is if you have pipes with valves an whatnot. If you have short pipes from the wall, mark and drill holes in the fully assembled cabinet and hang it onto the wall.

Do you have any suggestions/posts about boxed-in pipework running vertically on the exact join between two cabinets?
@kitchensbyrannes4 ай бұрын
You can either change the sizes of the cabinets or cut away some of the cabinets sides. I don't see any other options.
@alexpross8619 Жыл бұрын
Do you nail the backboard after? I can’t see how you can nail it in. Do you just glue it??
@kitchensbyrannes Жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, Thank you for your question. I do not nail or glue the backboard in this case. When the sink cabinet is sitting next to one or two cabinets which are nailed, the is no reason to glue the sink cabinet. It'll be plenty rigid when tied into the adjacent cabinet(s).

bullshit, you can drill holes BEFORE assembly the cabinet
