I've been a carpenter most of my life and consider myself pretty darn handy with most construction project aspects, in fact I've even worked for a several granite companies along the way in my 48 years. But I never saw a circle cut this way. So yes, I definitely learned a valuable trick from you in the tile department today. Thanks! -Dave "Work Smart, Not Hard"

Huge thank you for your time and video, always dreaded using basic wet table top cutter (takes forever), and certainly didn't need to spend $$$ on 24" tile cutter either. Absolutely perfect tool to use for large format tile, particularly the toilet flange. Just finished pre-cutting all the 12x24 tile for both bathrooms in less that 2 hours, not a single broken piece! And still plenty life left on the $9.40 Skill brand blade from Lowe's. Very much appreciate the tips!

That was awesome. I have to cut a square through some ceramic tile that is already installed on my floor. I have to install two Newels for my stair railing. This was very helpful in showing how I can get started. Now all I have to do is figure out how to remove it from the floor, but at least I know how to correctly cut it.. Thanks.

I work in ceramic tile company and yes this is the right way to cut tile, although I prefer a Makita instead of dewalt, they vibrate less and are lighter.
@sothatshowyoudothat11 жыл бұрын
Yes it is porcelain. Some porcelain is harder than others, but you shouldn't have issues with your grinder. The blade does come into play though. I use a Dewalt porcelain diamond blade. Not all blades are created equal and this is probably why you are having issues. Also if your blade has been damaged or bent, that will also cause problems. Check out my site for more on cutting with an angle grinder. There is a link in the description below this video.

Awesome. Just curious, why wasn't water used when cutting? I once used a diamond-coated hole saw to drill a hole through tile and needed to keep it wet with water.

i need to make some angle cuts around my wood stove, can you tell me name of exact blade you are using? is it just a diamond blade?
@sothatshowyoudothat8 жыл бұрын
Its a dewalt diamond blade. They sell it at ace hardware or order it on amazon!
@africanrover54252 жыл бұрын
I would only ever use an angle grinder without blade guard if there was absolutely no other way to do the job with it on. And that was certainly not the case here.
@dorothybriffa76919 жыл бұрын
what type of blade are you using due I need to purchase a goodone
@sothatshowyoudothat9 жыл бұрын
+Dorothy Briffa Im using a dewalt blade that is made for cutting tile, slate, porcelain and standard masonary items. I would definitely buy a dewalt blade. There are so many bad blades out there that will only cause you problems.

Help! Why did my porcelain tile crack at the corner of the L cut? It was 1 month after install... Was it cut wrong? Should it have been cut as a miter instead? Please advise
@sothatshowyoudothat6 жыл бұрын
There must have been movement while the thinset has been drying. The thinset could have shrunk during this time. There are many reasons this could have happened.
@sothatshowyoudothat11 жыл бұрын
USE CAUTION but no you wouldn't. The blade that I'm using can hurt you but you would not cut off your fingers. Diamond blades are pretty safe. You still want to protect your fingers but you would have to hold the blade on your skin for several seconds to even break the skin.

you sure that is porcelain tile? looks more like ceramic. ive cut a lot of ceramic tile with an angle grinder and it pretty much goes like your showing. Just tried to cut a notch in a porcelain tile and it cracke straight thru. Any suggestions?
@sothatshowyoudothat8 жыл бұрын
+TufRiverboards Yes it's porcelain. Not all porcelain is created equal though! I use the dewalt blade and i have no problem with cutting any tile. When i do have problems, it's always because the blade is bad, bent or the shaft on the grinder is bent. I've had all three happen. So check those things. Most important though is don't cheap out on the blade you buy. You wouldn't use a butter knife to carve a roast right?
@TufRiverboards8 жыл бұрын
+SoThatsHowYouDoThat After busting out my mini tile saw and cutting a few pieces. I came to the conclusion that my cheapo grinder and $10 blade weren't going to work for the tile i was using. Thanks for the reply, sorry for doubting you.
