Thanks for this video Joe. It has all of your tips in it. The end of video explains the red spot on your head. So that’s how you ‘did’ that! Too bad you did not catch that on video; funny blooper material. 😅 This vid is gold. Very useful for DIY’fers like me. Thanks a lot. God bless you.

Such great content. I was nervous about doing this size and type of project DIY, but your channel has me getting more excited to get started! Question if I may. The existing flooring I will be removing is a mixture of old hardwood, cheap lvp, and carpet. One concern I have is the hardwood was installed in the kitchen prior to any cabinetry and appliances, so they all sit on top of the hardwood. Same with the laundry room with the cheap lvp being installed before the cabinetry and appliances. With an open design kitchen going into a currently carpeted living room, my goal is to not have any transitions between these rooms after install. Without removing all the cabinetry, would you use a multi-tool to cut along the cabinetry to remove the hardwood and old lvp? Then proceed with the new install and quarter round? I’m still working my way through your content, so if you discuss this in a video on your channel, any reference to that content would be amazing. I will be watching your install for transitions to exterior doors next. Seriously thankful for all the work you put into this channel, your website, and your line of work. Master of your craft for sure. Hope you and your family have a blessed holiday and merry Christmas!

Yes. You can go over it. If the pieces are small no worries. If they are large then fill them with floorpatch or cardboard from yoir plank boxes.

Joe question for you.. when installing over a slab do you lay down a 6mm plastic and still a pad underlayment that has the plastic bottom layer or do you only use one or the other? Having 2 vapor layers is not a good thing.

Joe, Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge of your profession. I have learned a lot of what to do and what not to do. I am getting ready to put down 1500 sq ft of Flooret LVP in our newly constructed barndominium on a concrete slab. I am using Quiet Walk for a vapor barrier and cushion. The cabinets have not been installed so its pretty much a clean slate. I have questions regarding laying out and securing temporary anchors down to start the first row. I was thinking about laying out dimensions before installing Quiet Walk, then transferring the lines back on top of it. As for anchors, I was thinking of cutting flaps in the QW to secure anchors to concrete, then taping them closed again after I pull anchors up. Any other suggestion would be appreciated. I searched for your videos for this topic, but didnt find anything. Thanks for your work and appreciate the prayers at the end. Bless ings to you and yours.

He talks about moisture but left on important factor. Cold floors. If your floors don’t insulated well the cold floors stay cold and humid spring and summer condensation start to happens on the floor. It happen to me.

Wow, Joel! Thank you for sharing such an in-depth review of the Modine base budget plank. I really appreciate how you broke down the features and benefits, especially regarding durability and the variety of patterns. I recently renovated my living room and used a different budget plank that was around the same price point-$2.85 per square foot. While it looked decent at first, I quickly noticed it scratched easily, and the patterns were quite limited-only four different designs in the box. This made the floor look repetitive after installation. It’s great to hear that the Modine plank offers at least 11 unique patterns, which sounds like a game-changer for achieving a more natural wood look. Your demonstration of the scratch resistance was particularly impressive. I had a similar test with my old flooring using furniture legs and ended up with some pretty noticeable marks. The fact that you can rub off those fork marks easily is reassuring. Also, I completely agree with your thoughts on locking systems. I struggled with my previous flooring installation because the drop-lock system kept popping apart, which led to a frustrating experience. I’ll definitely take your advice and consider the angle-locking system for my next project. Lastly, thanks for mentioning the 20 mil wear layer. It’s hard to find that level of durability in budget options. I’m thinking of ordering a sample kit to see how it looks in my space before making a decision. Keep up the great work! Your videos are super helpful, and your enthusiasm for flooring really shines through. Looking forward to more tips in your future videos!

I just finished a closet installation using vinyl plank flooring, and I can relate to the challenges you mentioned! I had to undercut the door jams too, which made a huge difference in getting the planks to fit snugly. Using a cheater board really saved me time on those tricky cuts around the corners. I also found that using a plank hammer instead of a mallet gave me better control without damaging the edges. It's great to see your tips on modifying the locking system; I had to glue some joints in my project to keep them secure too. Thanks for sharing your experiences; they’re super helpful! I appreciate the advice on maintaining expansion gaps as well. Looking forward to trying more of your techniques in my next project!

I really enjoyed your breakdown of glue down versus click lock flooring! I installed glue down hardwood in my living room a few years back, and it was a solid choice. The process was straightforward, and I appreciated the solid feel underfoot. I also had to deal with some moisture issues because I live in a humid area, so I made sure to use a good quality moisture barrier. On the other hand, I recently helped my neighbor install click lock vinyl in her kitchen. It went down much quicker, and we didn’t have to worry about glue drying. However, we did have to ensure the subfloor was perfectly level, which took some extra time. One thing I noticed was the sound difference; the glue down felt more solid while walking on it compared to the click lock, which had a slight hollow sound. I’m curious about your thoughts on maintenance for both types. Thanks for sharing such valuable insights!

Ive actually learned alot from this guys channel. I mostly do hardwood flooring and engineered floors but ive been doing more vinyl the last couple years and if you dont always do it this channel helped me more so around kitchen appliances and around jambs . The locking system was difficult the first couple jobs bc they were spaced so far apart .. I think if i had my own company id be trying to get vinyl jobs bc you can install like 800 ft apartment and stairs daily. My cousin had a contract for 200 apartments from 650 to 800ft and a set of stairs very easily with drop n lock per day and zero prep tbh no float cut jambs as we went . Painters did shoe mould . There was alot i didnt agree with about it bc i usually work harwood floors and do sand and finish so at first it didnt feel like flooring to me . Turns out it was just the job i was on though . Im actually very fond of installing vinyl these days but anyhow thanks for this channel . Thanks for the prayers

Joe, I've been building for over 50 years and never installed LVP. I've watched your video's quite a bit preparing to do my first real effort at installing "Lifeproof" LVP. I'm building my new house and I'm on concrete slab floors. Your tips and tricks for starting and staying straight have helped tremendously. I'm using tapcons to lock down that first two rows and it is so critical. I've used a laser to square everything and that is also critical to keep all the joints locking together. so far everything has been flawless. You've made it all a pretty easy process. Thanks a Million... 🙂

Hey Joe, I've watched all of your videos and want to thank you for all of the information you have provided. I am getting ready to do an entire floor with Nucore Performance with some tricky angles. In future demonstration videos, it would be helpful to zoom in on details, for example, measuring with the cheater board at doorways. It is hard to see where you make your marks on the planks.

Which Click-Lock is in the back of this video? Looks natural. I have glued down similar looking click-lock (8mm thick) as is in this video. It is glued to the concrete floor with floor heating (both freshly made, concrete floor was very level). Since install 2-3 years ago it looks ok, no movements or hollow spaces beneath. 2K glue was a little expensive, but all went smooth even for first time installer. Your video helped me greatly, as i watched them a lot before starting the install. 2K glue was hard after 30min after mixing, so had to be fast when installing. Thanks for the uploads it was much help. I have installed 90m2 without the seams between the rooms/doors so 2 rooms had to be installed backwards due not wanting to have seams. :D

No it’s the opposite. “Loose lay” = floating floor or also perimeter attached sheet vinyl around here. It’s not an industry term… it’s a local term so YMMV.
