How to cut up breakbeats on the E-Mu SP1200

A few months ago a viewer asked me to do some breakbeat tips for the E-Mu SP1200 sampling drum machine. Here you go!

Many thanks for the excellent video. Couldn't agree more about not using a dedicated editor for cutting up samples. I come from a die hard, analogue synth based background, the SP1200 is my first sampler ever and the digital crudeness of it, from the sound to interface, makes me feel home. And the presence of SSM2044s tells me I'm home. Thanks again.

⁠@@gwEmbassySince I started with electronic music over 20 years ago, I have only ever used hardware samplers and gear. So luckily there is much less of a learning curve with the SP. Nonetheless the trick with the hi res on and the tap/reset for truncation, as well as the copy workaround are brilliant. I wonder if that midi box would beneficial for the Rossum. Unfortunately there isn’t much out there in regards to the Rossum midi. Thanks gwEm

Do you have a link where I can purchase it and does it require soldering or is it a plug and play installation? Cheers!

It did require some basic soldering. I got it from eBay. However, I just searched for it again and it’s not available at present. I tried a yellow one and a blue one and stuck with the yellow one. Thanks a lot for the sub!

I don't understand that copying workflow. Why do you copy PAD1 to PAD2, then delete PAD1 and then load the sample from disk to PAD1? You could just load the sample from disk to every pad you want without using the 'copy-step' or do I overlook something? Oh and I guess it's possible to set the Endpoint with TapRepeat too by using the Startpoint-Faders as a 'search-for-the-Endpoint-Tool' and when you found it simply pull back the Endpoint Faders and after that pull back the Startpoint Faders. Hope you understand what I mean :)

You can only load the sample from disk to the same pad it was on before.
