v waltz has only six steps but it is the hardest to master as you need to understand how to not spot your head on a reverse turn, which is the hardest step. and reason why it is hard is there is no basic step to rest if you make a mistake, it is a go go go dance.

The Reverse Fleckerl - Contra Check - Natural Fleckerl move is usually reserved for advanced Viennese Waltz dancers. Because generally in Viennese Waltz you cannot look at your feet, be sure that your feet has imaginary tracks to your partner's feet at all times. I don't know if Strictly Come Dancing BBC Style allows open work in the Viennese Waltz. I know there is an International Viennese Waltz that does not permit movements like the Shadow Natural Turns or most open work like Rolling Off The Arms Or Switching Sides (which often exists in another style of Viennese Waltz, called the Smooth Viennese Waltz, or American Viennese Waltz).

Is this the kind of waltz they did on old musicals from like the 1930s and 1940s?
@legaleagle465 жыл бұрын
It actually goes back much farther than that. It dates back some 250 years to Old Vienna. But yes, you will typically see it in grand ballroom scenes in old movies, with everyone decked out in formal attire. It's quite breathtaking when done well, especially to a good piece traditional, classical Viennese Waltz music such as a Strauss Waltz!
@russianbear70595 жыл бұрын
In Ballroom the Viennese waltz is being taught differently
@legaleagle465 жыл бұрын
There are two different styles of Viennese Waltz. What you're seeing here is classic International Standard Viennese Waltz. American Smooth Viennese Waltz (which is more commonly taught in American dance schools) has the man starting on his LEFT foot, not his right, and it allows for open footwork, hold breaks, and a greater variety of figures, which International Standard does not.

It always confused me that this dance was danced by the upperclass in days of old. All I can say is, they must have been a lot fitter than the average person today. I considered myself fit at the time of my dancing but a couple of laps around the floor with the Viennese and I was a wreck.

Competition is not for the causal or social dancer. Yet, I assure you, there is a lot of enjoyment in competition, because the achievement of 2 people in sync, flow and harmony with each other is a joy you rarely (if at all) experience in social dance. I say this because of the experience I have in both areas.

The steps are not "male" and "female". There is a leader and a follower. Men and be followers if they want to woman can be leaders. It is 2020. The National Dance Council of America recently changed their rules and the rest of the world should also. On a side not : the Strictly / DWTS V Waltzes are always pretty meh because they generally haven't learned body contact and struggle rotating around their partner.
