How to Darkslide (Kitesurf / Kiteboard tutorial)

This tutorial explains the darkslide in detail. The darkslide can be risky in stronger wind, so this video explains the safest ways to learn. It covers darksliding without a kite loop, for training or stronger wind conditions. This guide then explains the looped version for those that are ready, and finally looks at how to darkslide your board smoother and further.

Alex here, I'm the researcher. speaker, writer, video editor, demonstrator etc, and my wife is the camera operator. That's the whole team at the moment. I don't have a stuntman, but if anyone wants to volunteer they are welcome :-)

I started trying this yesterday, but i am confused on why you always end on a transition (in this video), wouldn't be easier to just keep riding the same direction?

As you loop the kite you get pulled directly downwind so it's easier to just point the board the same way and transition back. That's what I've found anyways

Is it worth learning the kite movement first before attempting an integrated movement?

Hi Peter, yes definitely, you can just ride along and practice the slow steering back movement. If you get it right you should feel almost weightless on your board for a while. I am planning to make an intro video for sliding with some of these training drills.
