Another possible progression, (the one I used), is to practise doing a thief vault running straight on towards the object and making the legs go "more forward" each time until you have something close to a dash vault. Then you have a very similar motion to a dash vault and from there you can attempt an actual dash vault.

Hi Ronnie, was wondering if this was a kind of dash turn vault: you go to in to the dash with the legs, but do a 180 BEFORE planting your hands so you're actually holding onto the obstacle with the hands and body the right way round for a cat. Not sure if this is a thing, but I think it would be better if going into a cat on the other side of the obstacle than your version of the dash turn vault.

@splashboy37906 жыл бұрын
So, I (think) I created a new trick. It's essentially a dropkick over an obstacle, but you put a hand down. You start sideways and end sideways. My instructor hadn't seen it before and called it a side dash. Have any of you seen/done this trick before, and is there a real name for this? Thanks.

Isn't there another progression with the lazy and speed vault?
@D_Fyre7 жыл бұрын
RMB cuber There is one that someone showed me that worked better than any of the ones I've seen on KZbin. I still haven't seen it in a video tutorial. You'd need an obstacle that's deeper than what you're intending to vault over. For example, if you want to clear the same wall Ronnie is demonstrating on in the first part of this video, you'd need to find something wider, like the picnic table. The progression is, jump up onto the table as if you're actually trying to dash vault it, but land in a sitting position, using your lead foot and hands to land and keeping your other foot extended forward. Your hands should be next to your hips, but slightly behind your butt, lined up with your tail bone. The goal is to clear the width of the wall with no fear of falling onto the other side or putting too much weight on your wrists in case you overshoot. You can either imagine the width of the wall you're practicing to clear or you can use a visual marker of some kind, like chalk or a bottle. You'll see how easy it is to clear that distance and the progression will get you used to jumping the right height and distance. If you can clear the correct width of the obstacle you intend to progress to, with only your hands within that zone, you should be able to clear the actual obstacle. Does that make sense? It's a bit hard to properly explain without visuals. Anyway, that's the progression that worked for me. The lazy/thief vault progression has you doing them from sharper and sharper angles until you're approaching the obstacle from a 90° angle (basically running straight at it). I don't like that one as much because it gets you used to using one hand more than the other and causes the dash vault to become imbalanced.
