It's absolutely refreshing to hear a young, single man say that people who struggle with habitual sexual sin shouldn't date. It's a standard I've come to for myself and any potential suitors, and it's one I intend to stick to no matter how difficult it seems to find someone who agrees. I'd rather be single than introduce that into my future family. Kudos!

How or when do you start that conversation? I had my ex abstain from sexually explicit material even on TV during Lent. We did it together. But then he then brought up solitary sexual sin. I had no idea he was struggling with that. It wasn't the reason at broke up, but I saw his struggle to remain chaste and it was hard not to be able to help him. In fact, I learned that our relationship and his attraction to me was a trigger for him.

@@Eserr7856 But even more accurately, I believe I met my husband through God. I know that my mom and his dad were both praying we would meet spouses who would help us on our journey to Heaven. So the real answer is prayer and God, I think. I'll pray for you. She is out there! Ask your priest to introduce you to some single women who he feels would be well suited. Jewish rabbis are apparently great at match-making...I feel this is something our Catholic priests should take on. The priest who married my husband, Eric, and I actually later introduced me to my best friend who has also been wonderful in keeping me spiritually on track. So my advice is: Pray for yourself and your future spouse, ask people to pray for you, and ask your priest for guidance. :)

The root of sexual perversions such as pornography and masturbation can often be loneliness. Getting involved with a more spiritually rooted person of the opposite sex could actually be the best therapy for liberation from such perversions. But one should pray for wisdom here, because such a relationship could also be destructive, as you suggest.
@TheMDelima3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but the root of sexual perversion is Satan. Serious constant prayer and contemplation is what can free people suffering from it. Expecting someone else to free oneself from one's vices is already using the other person, and that's not how true love works. St. Thomas Aquinas describes love as willing the good of another. Not using the other to make oneself better. I hope you are not suffering from this, but if you are, know that I will pray for you.
@MissPopuri3 жыл бұрын
Satan is the accuser, yes, but the natural inclination of people who drawn to pornography and masturbation is a sense of loneliness feeling like you could never measure up in someone’s eyes. I would get ahold of Spiritual Warfare and the Discernment of Spirits by Dan Burke if you struggle with destructive emotions. Doing some of the exercises has helped me out; although, I’m still working out what I am doing for Lent in terms of a penance. It feels like a tall order to commit to six weeks of daily mass when I couldn’t even do the four weeks of Advent.
@flyesouisi3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMDelima I suppose stealing cannot be in any way due to hunger or need, and pain cannot be the cause of any sin; it is only satan. And natural human interactions where persons share their feelings and shortcomings, and support each other is always a matter of "using" each other? The truth is that satan does use human frailties to entice sin. One must always pray, but one must also seek and accept help from others to deal with the frailties which are part and parcel ot our fallen nature. That is why God gave us, sinful as we all are, to each other and members of community. And I do not mastubate or watch porn, but your prayers are always welcome, thanks.

IMO, it’s Dads who leave the faith. If dads don’t practice, children won’t practice. The church becomes increasingly feminine as women seek community and support but men want toughness and challenges.
@isaiah38723 жыл бұрын
@@oambitiousone7100 There's definitely some truth to this. Aa far as I've seen, a lot of Catholic husbands & fathers don't come to Mass regularly or willingly & when they do, their lifestyle habits aren't that God-fearing (old habits fie hard, Lord have mercy on them). On the other hand, many Catholic wives & mothers seem committed to living their faith & guiding their kids in the same direction, but even one lapsed/lukewarm parent influences kids so much easier. Holy Spirit, guide us, men of Your Church, to know & bear witness to all that is holy & true. It can be hard sometimes

"Mystical City of God" by Blessed Mary of Agreda goes into a history of the Blessed Virgin Mary (which involves St.Joseph and Jesus intimately). It is not considered part of the church you have to believe but it is considered most valuable for the faithful to read. The section on Mary's pregnancy and Joseph's actions toward it is in Book 2 "The Conception" around the second quarter of the book. Anyway, in the book Mary and Joseph both privately consecrated themselves as virgins, then God worked things out to where they were pledged in marriage to each other and then married. When they both found out the decision to live as virgins that they had made, they were overjoyed. They were already married. I forget at which point the Angel Gabriel came, (it was either in the betrothal period or after they were already married) but the relevant info for this topic is that Joseph was not aware she was pregnant until they were well into a few months into their marriage. Mary had not gotten express permission from God to tell Joseph about the pregnancy so she did not and instead prayed for him and God's will. Joseph dealt with two things, what his eyes were seeing, and what he knew of Mary's exemplary character and sweet soul in the time they had been married. The book says this was the hardest struggle he had and would ever face and it tore him up on the inside. This is because in one light, she was perfect, in the other she had sinned against him and God in one of the most grievous ways possible. But he decided to not just go with what his eyes were seeing and instead to resolve to not understand it but to leave her and live the rest of his life in the desert in a place where nobody would know him. This way she would not be killed in accordance with the law for adulterers, because through everything he had experienced with her he did not believe she deserved it. He accepted his predicament and resolved to do the best thing for her first... and then himself. I think this really showed his just character. In the end God sent an angel to him in a dream explaining everything. God ordained that Mary and Joseph should both be tested through this in following his will, to show that they could, and for them to grow in virtue. The whole story and their reunion after this trial are very romantic.

Good luck to the 0.001% people this is addressing. Men aren't Joseph, and women aren't Mary. We don't receive the same graces, as great as that would be. Fully agree with chastity being pivotal because of the effects of not keeping it, but if only whoever is the biggest saint already is allowed to date, then welcome to our extermination in a generation. Unless you want only other religions to survive modernity. The internet and self-sufficiency culture have created unrealistic standards and unreal, overblown expectations and that is making catholics literally die out and children be replaced by cats. That gives you the current tons of Catholics in their 40s still looking for the "perfect match" like it's not long over already. Previous generations just married the first person who was good enough, idealism can turn into poison. I'm so tired of it and of all this cucking and emotional blackmailing by women. Nowadays women are at least as unfaithful if not way more. Have some humbleness, we strive for perfection, we don't expect it

St. Joseph never dated in fact the concept of going on a date originated during the late 19th century. Marriages were arranged in which the man being the suitor would ask the woman's father or next male kin for her hand in marriage. In St. Joseph's case he asked St. Joachim for the Blessed Virgin Mary's hand in marriage. And likely St. Joseph would've gave a dowry to St. Joachim like oxen, goats, sheep, etc.

I believe courtship is the term you are looking for.
@imalive4u1693 жыл бұрын
@@dylanrunner2001 women really had no say in the matter who they would marry it was up to her parents ultimately her father or next male kin like her eldest brother if their father was deceased. The suitor if they taken a fancy with an unmarried woman didn't date her as being alone together was considered inappropriate behavior. That suitor then would present themselves before the woman's father or next male kin for her hand in marriage. Men of course were the only ones who could decide to divorce their wife again it wasn't the woman's decision to make. In Deuteronomy 22:28-29 if a man were to rape a woman the woman would decide whether or not to marry the man and after being married to him she would decide to divorce him was considered humiliation for the man as he would be denied as a man to whom he could marry or if married to divorce. Dating was introduced much latter on when women could choose who they wanted to marry and when taboos of an unmarried man being alone with a woman essentially were gone.

Great talk BUT there's a serious problem these days with Catholic talks focusing on how bad men are while giving women a free pass. It's because its safe to bash men, while it's the end of your career to tell women to improve themselves. It's tragic how many men listen to all these Catholic talks and obey them, only to find out Catholic women aren't taught to imitate Mary, are not taught what is needed for family or what a husband needs. Instead it's one long list of men never being good enough. How about women be held to chastity, virginity, debt free, submissive, homemaker rather than career, feminine in disposition and fashion, etc? Im not saying this to be a jerk, I'm trying to sound the alarm. There's a cancerous silence among the top Catholic outlets to avoid asking anything of women.

Apparently St. Joseph was not totally convinced of the virginal conception until he had the dream. According to scripture, it was only after The Angel of The Lord told him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife "BECAUSE" she conceived by The Holy Spirit he made the decision. I do not think this more obvious interpretation (or reading) detracts from St. Joseph's virtue in any way.
