Thanks Will & Craig. I had been thinking of DCCing a Pug but had put it off as i felt may be too difficult but this has given me the practical tips to give it shot. I also really like how the workshop vids arent too rushed and point out the not so obvious details, whereas most assume we know how to do things Cheers

Very interesting and informative video, some intensive surgery in a small space but shows what can be done with knowledge and skill. Thanks for sharing this with your subscribers.

I like the way you left your wiring mistake in and showed your work-around by simply swapping the red and black connections. We all make mistakes like this, and seeing how you fixed it was a good lesson. Re: the shrink tube, there's a product called "liquid insulation" or "liquid tape" that comes in a bottle (and in different colors, too) that you paint onto exposed wires. It can get into tight places to repair insulation that has cracked or opened up, and when you forget to slip that shrink tube on before you solder, which you will forget to do. (Ask me how I know!)

Just finished off a similar job. Watching this showed I was on same lines and, yes I b******d up the forwards and backwards too! Have a vague recollection that can be swapped in the CV settings but not yet looked up the details of how to do it.

Hi, how important is it to get the ‘very fine wire’ you talk about when soldering the cables? The nearest I can get is cable used for telephone wiring which is pretty thin but may be slightly thicker than the original wire in the engine - will this make a difference?

Is there any way of getting one of these to run at low speeds at full throttle? I want maximum power running through it but moving slow so that I can use it for my dapol track cleaning car... Any ideas?
@richierex6 жыл бұрын
are you confused, with DCC its full power to the track all the time. The loco goes any speed or direction

Is there any reason why the motor cannot be reinserted upside down, so that the contact pads are on top of the motor. That way they are easy to get at for soldering and you can be sure that they are not shorting on anything.

Great Video Craig, really very informative. Do you think it would be possible to also add sound and a seuth smoke generator as well? Perhaps an N Gauge sugar cube speaker could work? I would like to attempt this.....

Great video! Can you tell me if this is one of the older Hornby locos? If so, how did it run on DC (slow running etc), before fitting DCC (which it seems to run well on?).
@GBPuploads9 жыл бұрын
Well presented video making task straight forward. However I have just DCC'd Percy and simply turned the motor through 180 degrees so that motor contact are on the top. No need to shorten pick up contacts. I also added a socket and this really did make things complicated. But it all works.

Simon Young Yes, a beautiful job of TAMING a Hornby pocket rocket. This loco is now a true shunter. If only there was enough space inside a pocket rocket to install the battery sound device from the previous Workshop, we could have sound as well. Looks like installing the battery sound device into a wagon behind the loco will have to suffice.
@InterCity829 жыл бұрын
SeaToby11 Might be worth a video?! What do y'a reckon? ;)
@SeaToby119 жыл бұрын
InterCity82 Why not? Does appear to be a great idea. Installing a battery sound device to a wagon would make all of our steam locos have sound when that loco is placed on our layouts one at a time. Do two wagons and run two locos we would have two locos with sound. But one will be sufficient.

Isn't that old conversion one of the ones that's had trouble? This was crazy, but not as crazy as my plan to rig my model of Lady up with lamps powered by a watch battery. Or as crazy as trying to chip that particular 0-4-0 would be.

i found out that you can run dcc locos on dc controls is this true. heard from sams trains
@DENPTrains7 жыл бұрын
TrainMaster15 Yes you can run DCC fitted locos on a DC circuit, however you can't run a DC loco on a DCC circuit
@rdj6737 Жыл бұрын
Most DCC decoders can run on DC Direct Current. There are a few older ones that cannot. Also, software in the decoder investigates the rail voltage signals and decides which control system (not all are "DCC" or DC) is present before operating the motor. This hesitation is often seen after a quick short that DC locomotives can just use their momentum to carry through. The decoder software Control Variables (CV29) can be changed to not test, thus improving DCC performance, but then it will no longer operate on DC until the decoder is reset. (i.e., if the decoder seems to not work, reboot!)

What do the other four wires do?
@SeaToby119 жыл бұрын
+Reuben Saunders Many use the other wires for lights with other larger locos. But the 0-4-0 doesn't have enough room inside the loco to install lights unfortunately. There is just barely enough room for the DCC chip.
