Amazing tips! I used to (very long time ago) get very frustrated and immediately go on the offensive when a payment is late. Hopefully I won't need any of these tips but this is great to have in my back pocket❤ Thanks Hayley (and the team)

As a freelancer chasing payments is something that can send a shiver down the spine of even the most experienced of us. If you struggle with talking about money then this video is for you. Are there any other common struggles that you would like us to cover?

I'm a video editor, my client doesn't accept project fee based pricing or day rates, just hourly rates. My invoices for them is net 30. But for the past few months, they tend to pay me late. Usually I get my late check within in a week or less from the due date. Late payment fees aren't in our contract. Don't want to lose this client since the pay is decent. I tried talking to them about the reason why the late payments, and they said it's on their accounting department. What do you suggest I do?

Hey! I think the best advice would be to speak to the accounts department and ask them what their usual terms are. At least this would enable to you to send your invoices in early or have a realistic expectation of when you’ll be paid! It’s likely that they’re not going to adjust their payment terms just for you but this way at least you’ll have a clearer understanding of how they’d like to operate! You could try and negotiate with them, but it's difficult if you aren't willing to walk away from that client. What are your current terms on your invoices? :) [disclaimer - this isn't financial advice!]

@@MotionHatchOur invoices are net 30. The main person I work with said if I have any accounting questions or concerns, I have to discuss it with him directly, I can’t really speak to accounting since I’m a independent contractor and not an employee. Is that how it usually works when you are a contractor? Also, what do you mean by asking accounting when their usual terms are? I edit for 3 weeks then send an invoice (hourly rates).
