I got extremely lucky. I live in the middle of the residential area in my small town. Looked at the ordinances and it said nothing about keeping chickens or cockerel. My granddaughter and I hatched out some eggs and ended up with 4 pullets and 3 cockerel. We went around to the neighbors and asked them if they were bothered by the chickens (and gave them some eggs) most said they never heard them unless they were outside. Others said they liked listening to them. There are 3 other families in town that have poultry as well. Gotta love 4H communities.

You lucked out.... Our neighbor have one we can hear non-stop through A/C, with windows closed, and TV on.... I hope to buy a pitbull puppy to bark everytime the rooster sounds off. Waiting to get privacy fence put up. Getting free eggs don't help with falling asleep. Very inconsiderate. I'll let you know how the pitbull puppy works out. He'll have company to talk with.🤞🏾

@@PastorIhaza Do not get a such a beautiful breed such as a pit bull just to turn it into a stereotypical version of that breed. That’s very inconsiderate of you. Just speak with your neighbor. The dog deserves a better owner than you.

@@randymcfarland6250 Turn it to what? I'm not a thug, so wouldn't know like you know. And I wonder how you can determine whether the dog deserves better than me 🤨. I've already owned the breed before... 2 beauties. And was quite close to my other neighbors pitbull. It's funny how your ignorant comment exposed your own stereotyping. Shame on you. I won't speak to the neighbors about a rooster they know crows all day. When they hear my dog bark all day at the rooster crowing, neither of us will say anything. That's how good neighbors develop. Fantastic neighbors don't allow their rooster to crow all day, nor dog bark all day. Good news, saw a Coywolf in the yard. He left his sent in their yard. I wonder why? Probably heard the rooster crowing. Funny, the rooster did crow while the Coywolf roamed the yard.😜

I have a Belgian D’Uccle rooster and he wears a no crow collar (which doesn’t eliminate the crow, just dulls it down) and he sleeps in his box at night. No complaints so far. He didn’t like the collar to start but it doesn’t seem to bother him anymore. Recently moved to residential area with no other roosters and we rarely hear him now. I also give the neighbors free eggs which probably works in the flocks favour 😂

I used a no-crow collar twice with two roosters, worked well enough for neighbors that liked the sound of roosters but clearly didn't want super loud crowing, but not well enough to completely hide a rooster if your neighbors aren't a fan. Still hoping to eventually hatch a mute rooster one day (I heard it's happened before).

Despite being a dog person. I dare say dogs are noisier than roosters/birds. If a city bans people from owning chickens/ roosters, then it should ban people from owning dogs as well. Otherwise it is a vicious form of discrimination, as dogs not only bark excessively, they bite and hurt people, attack and kill other animals, and kill grass and plants on people's yards. All people should be respected "equally" and allowed to own their desired domesticated animals other than the 2 boring options of useless cats and dogs. Especially the heritage endangered breeds of ducks, chickens, and geese who used to be kept on people's yards for emotional wellbeing and to sustainably feed their families.

I'm not sure about spraying them with water, but my late rooster only ever crowed at 6ish in tye morn. I always followed with food at that time and he always shut up after he was fed. A few times when he was young I'd push the time before it was 6 and then feed him. Could be coincidence but he eventually only crowd around that time.

@captainmorgan23074 ай бұрын
My hens crow usually in the mornings. As soon as I hear it I run outside and chase the perpetrator around the yard for a few minutes. This makes them very uncomfortable and is the only way I've found to decrease the crowing. I also say "Don't make noise" or "No noise" everytime they crow, so they hear a verbal cue relating to their behavior. When I chase them I repeat the line. If I don't know who made the noise I wait for them to repeat and immediately chase the one. From hearing crowing every day to once a week, I think this type of positive punishment has worked. (I'm in behavioral psychology)

Our buff Orpington rooster is fairly quiet. He crows around 6 am, and then a couple times throughout the day. Nothing too crazy. We had a blue Andalusian rooster that came out and crowd at 3 am non stop until the buff Orpington came outside and quieted him. Needless to say we didn’t keep the Andalusian.

Our rooster sounds like a bomb going off and I’ve grown to hate him because the neighbours now loathe us. He goes off every 20-30 minutes and it’s absolutely defeaning. It’s our fault and he’s getting rehomed. It wasn’t my decision to buy him and I entirely agree with the neighbours. Don’t do this to people if you live in close proximity to others; other people have the right to enjoy their homes in peace.

*I got a "window break alarm", and took the guts out of it.* I then made a micro linear actuator that pulls on brocolli rubber bands around my roosters' necks when they crow. So when they crow, they get choked. The only downside is I have to change the batteries every 4-5 months or so. *It has conditioned my roosters into short calls, which is nothing by comparison.* Be warned though....one of my roosters became aloof, and refused to eat after getting his collar. He died in a cornerbehind my shed.
