One thing worth noting about bleeders is that they are attracted to blood in game. This includes those of their own kind. If you’re swift and witty enough, you can eliminate them systematically by slashing one with a knife and then backing far enough away. The dead bleeder will attract the attention of several others, which will swarm and focus primarily on it. Then you can slash others as they’re preoccupied with eating the one you killed prior. I have learned how to pacify the entirety of the flooded sections of the aurora with nothing but a survival knife. Also with the Lava Larva, they will seemingly straight up ignore and even run from the Prawn if it has a drill arm equipped. I have had zero instances of them attaching to it with a drill equipped in over a hundred hours of gameplay.

Also another (surprisingly endearing) means of ridding yourself of a Reaper- or dare I say _befriending_ a Reaper- is Peepers! If you grab yourself a decent amount of peepers (make sure you're holding one out in your hand) in your inventory (say about 7+, usually I have half an inventory full) and a reaper spots you, whether you're low on health or full health they will come to you and Nick your peepers! So long as you have a supply of peepers they'll nibble about 4-5 or 6 per turn and leave you alone after each snack. Which either gives you enough time to shoot off in a different direction OR go grab yourself some more kibble for these darling leviathans. Regarding health, if they happen to take a chomp out of you or by some other means your health is dangerously low you WILL still get the "killing animation" whereby a Reaper will grab you in it's mandibles and pop you in it's jaw.. BUT ALAS! If there are peepers in your inventory (namely in your hand)- after the killing animation all goes black until you open your eyes... You're alive!! And about 10 peepers short but still, scared sh*tless but alive. 😂😂

Just want to add, shutting the cyclops engine off will not stop a leviathan from attacking your cyclops if you are in their patrol route. Just had a sea dragon destroy my cyclops because it was in the way. Leviathans can generally hear further than they can see, but if they get close enough they will attack once or twice if something is in "sight" range.
@jamesbond3wАй бұрын
I think they tend to attack the player more than the vechile. I had a sea dragon keep attacking my cyclops so I hopped into my prawn suit to drill it into submission. I was on a rock face like 10 feet away from the Cyclops but the Sea Dragon would always go for me and the prawn suit rather than the Cyclops.
@terminalvelocityrunner2202Ай бұрын
@@jamesbond3was a matter of fact, this seems to very much be the case. Leviathans and several other aggressive creatures seem to mainly target a vehicle only if the player is inside it. In numerous instances, i have been able to park my vehicles in relatively accessible spaces to aggressive fauna and get out to collect resources. And they will leave the vehicle well enough alone for the most part, prioritizing me over the submersible. Occasionally they will take a swing at it, but outside of bonesharks, they never really go after an empty vehicle enough to make me particularly worried about loosing it. I have even seen this in Below Zero with the Cryptosuchus (the big angry things in the thermal spires and purple vents). And those things are overly aggressive towards just about anything that moves within proximity.

Quick tip for warpers: they cannot turn very quickly, and take only two thermo-knife swings to make them bugger off. Basically, circle around them before quickly changing direction, and you can get behind them: once behind them, they can't do anything. Tip for crabsquids: they cannot attack or EMP above or below themselves. If you do not stay on their depth level, they cannot do anything against you. Source of these facts: I cleared out and based in the Northern Bloodkelp Zone. Right above where i based is a warper spawn.

You only need two cave sulfur at most, and they are in EVERY biome bar the Lava zone/lakes. You can find their eggs. According to the PDA, crashfish prefer to lay their eggs in the sulfur plants, which in turn protects the plants from predators. Everything else under the sun has learned that crashfish are horrifyingly dangerous, and avoid accordingly thanks to instincts. Not you though. You are not native, and the crashfish go after you with a vengeance for it.

Killing guide for every creature type (in order of difficulty): (Difficulty 1-2/10) Up to stalker-size creatures near sea level: ram with Seamoth or stab repeatedly. Also works with crabsquids if you stab from above (they can't hit back). (Difficulty 2/10) Gasopods: stab, they can't do much to fight back. Also, don't make them an endangered species to collect their gas pod things (important for later). (Difficulty 4/10) Mid to large creatures: use the stasis rife + knife combo or Prawn's grapple arm + drill combo. Leviathans: (Difficulty 7.5/10) Slow way: see [mid to large creatures]. (Difficulty 3/10) Smart way: take a bunch of gasopod gas pod things. Then stasis rifle the reaper and drop the gas pods near it and run. I recommend turning on PDA pausing in the settings. You'll need different amounts of gas pods for different leviathans. To give you some sense of scale, dropping most of your inventory worth of gas pods will consistantly kill sea dragons (accounting for some of them to miss). (Difficulty 7+/10) Reefbacks and Cuddlefish: even though they don't fight back, they're tied for the highest HP stat in the game, so killing them takes a really long time. Feel free to use any method. Fastest method for reefbacks (5/10): gasopod method. However, reefbacks are a bit harder to hit woth this. Fastest method for cuddlefish (0/10): usually, cuddlefish killing difficulty is 10/10 because they're small and fast: hard to hit with any method and too small for gas%. However, you do have one chance to kill them easily: after they atched in your containment unit, DON'T place them outside and instead use them as fuel for the bioreactor. Sea emperor (9/10): cure yourself and escape the planet.

for warpers, it's infection level 0.33f that they trigger, there are a list of triggers that was listed from a guy on reddit. Post was deleted but but you can find it on the wayback machine but the list is as follows, copy/pasted (post text is within the emdashs): ----- *Things that will result in infection:* • ENTERING the Prawn = 0.25f • ENTERING the Cyclops = 0.25f • Entering the Aurora = 0.50f • Entering Gun Island = 0.50f • Passing 1000 meters will cause the infection to reach maximum progression of 1.0f immediately (corresponding to console command 4) • Being bitten by an infected creature = 0.25f • Being noticed by an aggressive creature if the game thinks you should already be infected = 0.25f • There is code in the game to check this each time an aggressive creature targets the player *Things that will not result in infection:* • Entering the void • Going to the rendezvous island • Visiting any particular biome not listed above • Reaching a depth of 999 meters For build triggers: Constructing the trigger object is not what matters - entering the trigger is. This means that you can build a cyclops without triggering infection, you just can't use it. This may not do you much good but it's an important distinction. It is also important to note that some infection triggers are delayed by timeofday change. This means that your scanner will not tell you that you are infected the moment you enter a cyclops, but that the infection will hit when the sun goes down/comes up. This is likely to obfuscate the actual trigger and make it less obvious. ----- u/Uthgaard later said in a comment that 0.75f is triggered by entering the actual gun, the island itself triggers the 0.50f infection. also note that entering any of the main 3 entrance biomes of lost river (bone fields, ghost forest and mountains corridor) is what will put you at 0.75f not 1.0f (full infection) so you can safely get your cuddlefish, nickel and crystalline sulfur. The wiki states anywhere in the lost river but I did my own test on a fresh playthrough and that part did not infect me, I waited 10 in game days and scanned after, no infection, I then did the same with the ghost forest (nothern blood kelp entrance) and got the dialogue for 0.75f infection.

The other option is to hold a fish in your hand when they attack. Instead of doing damage, they'll eat the fish. This works for every predator except the Sea Dragon and Ghost Leviathan. So having a half-filled inventory of Peepers (with one on the quickbar) is a good way to explore dangerous areas.

reaper can't turn quickly, when one charges you simply wait until it's close then dart to the right or left with a sea glide or go above it and it won't be able to turn with you quick enough to kill you.

Since all fauna except for crashfish and small, edible fish can't respawn after dying, I usually just like to kill certain creatures off if they're too much of a nuisance. For example, if a Reaper Leviathan is a direct threat in an area I know I'm gonna be for a while, I usually just kill it off, not with a stasis rifle and knife, but by attaching two drill arms to my Prawn Suit and going all out on its face when it grabs the vehicle. From my experience, it usually takes three or four full direct face drillings to kill them (and I of course repair my Prawn Suit in between attacks). For Cave Crawlers, I actively target them with my propulsion canon, shooting them towards walls so the collision kills them instantly (I like the Aurora and islands completely clear of them so I can wander without worry.) Biters and Bleeders are also creatures I actively target, I've almost completely rid a Grassy Plateau biome of Biters before. Ramming into them with the seamoth is most affective since they're small and their AI often has them prioritize small, dead fish - even corpses of their own species. So, if there's many in an area, after killing one, it's very easy to kill many more (this goes for both Biters and Bleeders). One difference I've found between the Biter and the Bleeder is that the Bleeder makes a very recognizeable sound when it dies, so it's easy to know if you've killed it.

A tip for several of those (stalkers, sandsharks, cave crawlers, Warper's teleport, ...) : just keep moving while you're in their territory Hey attack mostly in a straight line, and aren't very fast. As long as you don't stop, you'll dodge most of the attacks without having to pay attention to them.

Reaper Leviathan: I'd add this one: if you're driving a Seamoth or Prawn with shockwave module: always use it immediately AFTER you get catch: - the shockwave cancels the catch animation, and therefore the dammages over time. If timed well, you can nearly nullify the dammages on your vehicle. - if timed before the catch, it won't cancel it, making the whole animation and maximum dammages. Sea Dragon Leviatha, while driving a prawn equipped with a grab arm: - Yep. Exactly what you think. Go for the belly, and just enjoy the ride. I usually do this to reach the primary containment facility, dropping when I'm close enough to the entry.

Nobody seems to ever mention this but if you stop piloting the Cyclops any creature outside seems to be unable to attack it until you get back in the driver seat (They may do the initial attack but can't do any more after that and will just shove the Cyclops). Crabsquids will keep EMP blasting but they cant actually damage it so if a big creature starts charging it just simply stop driving

Another good strategy for the lava larvae is to use the cyclops thermal charging module. Since lava larvae can only be found in the lava zone, the module can use the heat in the lava zone to recharge while the lava larvae drain the power. The module charges the cyclops so much in the lava zone that the lava larvae can't keep up with it, so they won't even be in issue anymore. Just remember to get them off when you're returning to the surface.

Did you never try feeding a Reaper Leviathan a Peeper? You can literally stay in proximity to a Reaper Leviathan without a vehicle, so long as you have enough peepers to keep them busy. One peeper can give you up to 15 seconds of 'friend status' with a reaper, before their teeny tiny brains forget you exist and attack again, so give them another peeper and you get to be friends for another quarter of a minute :D

The actual strategy for dealing with Reapers is to just... not go where they are in the first place. You don't need to. The only Reaper you ever *need* to worry about is the one that hangs out between the mountain and the Aurora. Outside of that, if you see a Reaper, you're in the wrong place.

@@stoopidkid25 No they're not. You can get those near the Aurora on the shallow side. The worst you have to deal with there is radiation and sand sharks. Alternatively, there's always the Crag Field or the part of the Mountain where the Reapers don't go.

My favorite methods for dealing with most of the fish are one of the following: - if I don't feel like fighting, swim away - swipe at aggressive fish with my knife to get them away - grappling hook & drill arm whenever I see a Leviathan (after the 5th Leviathan it kinda just becomes second nature)
