Thank you, sir. The VA is concerned about my well-being. But I am strong. And I will be okay. No matter what. These videos give me strength. Cuz you were trained by the best to be the best. I went to the Navy's best unit. It was a disciplinary program. I loved every minute of it. They made me strong. Mentally physically I have trouble with my emotions. I I pay attention. For managers giving feedback (positive and negative) theres a great 4 step process. 1.ask "may/can I give you some feedback". If they say "no, I'm busy" walk away and talk later. 2. "When you *do* X *visible action* (ex late for work) 3. Y is the result. "Things ran poorly" or "I was frustrated" ect. 4. If it was positive, say thank you. If it was negative "can you change that next time?/ can you improve that?". From the podcast *Manager Tools*.

It might have been simple stuff and the guy is just over sensitive, or the boss may have been a complete ass, but he gave no examples so that isn't clear.

What great feedback. It's also good to develop confidants at work, who you trust and who will be candid. Most of us behave differently at work, because work-like conditions don't always exist outside of work all the time. Being in a certain kind of pressure every now and again, in our personal lives, is not the same thing as consistently being under certain conditions. As an example, I rarely give formal presentations outside of work...but I have had jobs where I gave formal presentations to VP-level people on a daily basis.

When it comes to someone else saying they take issue with your personality, and they want you to change it to suit their personal preference, especially in a business sense, it sounds like a control issue that THEY have. However, if they say they'd like you to adjust your attitude for improved customer service or coworker cohesion then yeah, some work may be necessary. But if they take issue about your personality, that sounds more like a personal problem that they have, which is none of their business. I have a blunt, straightforward personality, I'll say what I think with little to no sugarcoating or ego massaging, because "beating around the bush" to avoid hurting feelings is playing to their emotions unnecessarily. So If my personality rustles jimmies, then so be it, because it's VERY likely that I've already assessed the situation, and I'm giving my opinion on it based on my experience about it.

I've had this from a manager years ago , asking me to change my personality to be more approachable and friendly. The majority of the customers all liked me because of my personality and loved how honest I was. None of them liked the manager and even the managers own wife really liked me. The look on his face was priceless.

Feedback comes in 3 forms, critique, advice, compliments. Best way to look at it, is would you value that persons advice. If yes, then the feedback in the other 2 areas might be fair. If you wouldn't take their advice, then take it under advisement. Always remember people "might" like you more if you change to be the ideal they expect you to be, but you'll ultimately like yourself less

When you’re in LEADERSHIP; you see things in most cases from what we call the 30,000 ft view. Subordinates are either fast runners, middle of the pack or slackers. The problem with a lot of people is that they can’t separate “criticism” from “constructive criticism”. Of course the guy’s manager doesn’t know him like his family does...that’s a given because at work - you’re there to WORK! Managers and Leaders don’t have time to babysit, so if it’s time for ass chewing to get the job done - pass the steak sauce! This generation is PUSSIFIED!!! They’ve never had their asses chewed so when it happens - they take it personally and cry instead going “where did I go wrong? How can I fix this so that it doesn’t happen again?

When you disagree with feedback... just listen. Try to be as understated and relatively attentive as you can. Analyze carefully what is being assessed about you/your work, and examine whether you really disagree with the statements made, or are they about something you've always been proud of... carried like an identity for yourself... REMEMBER, at least 30% of all communication is in the interpretation... so you've got to dig through and interpret carefully. People will tell you ALL about themselves if you let them. This is the other side of this little coin. 9/10 times, if you're not carrying this "bad thing" around like a badge, and your work really is NOT suffering the way stated... THEN you're dealing with projection. Once, you start filtering the projection to the surface, you start learning more about this "Boss" person giving you feedback. EVERYONE loves to talk about themselves... AND those who completely lack self-awareness, forget too easily, and let it filter into about everything else they're talking about... SO let them talk. LISTEN.... ANALYZE... and in a three minute "bitch session", you'll find out more about how to string them along and work them around than you could possibly figure out any other way. OF COURSE... what you do with this information is on YOUR conscience, not mine. ;o)

I’m 22 years old and just started a podcast with my 32 year old friend, and I recently got some feedback from a 50 something guy (who is a friend of my podcast partner) who said he stopped listing to our podcast because he thought I was too young and inexperienced to understand what I was talking about. To be honest, this is kinda an area of insecurity for me, but I always try to be humble and say that I don’t know everything, but I just want to give my perspective. I failed to say that in this instance (although I was operating out of that mindset), and this guy’s advice was to say something like that. The whole thing just kinda felt wrong to me, because I felt like the guy didn’t even give me a chance. Later on in our episode, we really went into the value of being humble, but this guy invariably shut down his mind after that first mischaracterization of me. Apparently his wife told him to listen to the rest of the episode, and his viewpoint changed. I’m all for applying his advice, but for anyone who’s read this far, do you think he was right to shut the podcast off without hearing me out? Honestly asking. Thanks in advance. :)

When working in customer service, there is such a thing as using a tactical exclamation mark, and using just enough versus too many. It can really elevate the mood of an email when used well. 1-2 is appropriate and communicates enthusiasm, but any more makes you sound stupid and unbearably energetic, even borderline erratic. Personalities are subjective. This doesn't really help me with a situation I am dealing right now. I had a client tell my manager that I did NOT have a conversation with someone & should have. However, this is not accurate. I did have a conversation with this person. How am I supposed to take this feedback?
