Hunted cat tail island for first time ever , walked cat tail roots out ( scouted in spring ) found the scrapes and fresh rubs , set up 30 yards off scrapes and killed a nice Michigan 8 pt 10 mins after I sat down . Needed an east wind a finally got it Nov 18 th and killed a solid buck . First time hunting it and it worked out . ! Beast mode paid off for me !

I went to Iowa the first time 2 years ago and made that mistake. Passed up on a couple 130s the first 2 days knowing a huge cold front was coming the last 4 days and then everyone and their brother was out and couldn’t get away from people and ate my tag. Bummer but was fun.

Here in missouri the conservation dept. Has an abundance of public land to hunt,and private land is being leased to the highest bidder, in 2021 and 2022 i hunted a private farm killed 7 deer, and in 2023 2 guys from wisconson gave the owner 10 grand to hunt during deer season. Which pushed me to public land 2 hours away.im sure this is happening in every state. God Bless.

I put out a few cameras this year on public after black powder season. It was a freaking circus and I was trying figure out what to do with all the pressure. Guys are all over the place and they don’t seem to understand wind and sun rise/set. Maybe they will be successful now that it’s rifle season, but they sure haven’t been getting it done with their crossbows. Cameras are as useful to monitor people as they are the deer, lol

I started leaning more towards public land hunting through two experiences. First is family farm access issues combined with my experience of shooting nice bucks 3 years in a row with rifles with putting no work into it or requiring much knowledge. I haven’t tagged a buck since but woodsman-ship and deer knowledge have grown immensely from essentially starting from scratch as an orange army upbringing.

100% the private guys are all now hitting public and now all rifle hunters buy crossbows and hit it. It's terrible down here where we have very limited small public lands. And 100% all the pressure has moved deer more and more onto the private.

I own private land and have permission on neighboring private land in SW WI and I hunt public land. My motivation to hunt public land is to keep the pressure low on the private land that I hunt. Apps makes difficult to access public land much more accessible. I also do observation sits and scout public land to gauge the stage of the rut in my area. When things amp up, I tend to hunt my properties more. Public land also keeps me more engaged in hunting by exploring new areas. The public I hunt is Mississippi River or Wisconsin River access. Because of the difficult access, I run into fishermen and duck hunters, but never deer hunters. Please stop telling people to hunt SW WI! LOL! I live in AZ. Bear hunting in the mountains of AZ is a beast. It is some of the most difficult access and hunting a person can do. Winke has a video up from 2 weeks ago about how to gut a deer....still up....great video. I switched from Montec 100 grains to 150 grain tooth of the arrow broadheads this year.....deadly!

Im so used to heavy pressure pushing deer to my spots that this year nobody hunted my local public spot ive had to fabricate pressure myself to push the bucks to my usual kill spots
@trumanmiller9428 күн бұрын
How do you go about fabricating pressure? Go to the home depot and hire some day labor or what?
@jgadventures416128 күн бұрын
@trumanmiller94 what I do is a few days before the season opens I go in certain sections of the mountain and walk it down so the deer hear see and smell me I also leave old dirty work clothes ....this will make them hold tightly to the cover where I haven't been which is where I will hunt it's probably going to be different for everyone I'm on a 240k acre wma all mountains I mostly focus on teaching the doe to hide more so the bucks aren't having to chase them in wide open old growth where most people have stands here
@trumanmiller9427 күн бұрын
@jgadventures4161 that is a brilliant tactic. I love it. I'm in wv, most people suck so bad at killing big bucks that nobody does. The only people killing big bucks are the ones with a spotlight driving around. I like to get into the thick river bottoms and make the deer come to me. I'll run paracord out 50 feet in all directions and tie them onto saplings and brush in a few spots. Then when season comes and the bucks start seeking the does in the thick bedding cover, I slip in, and call them in either simulating a buck fight or a grunting buck chasing a bleating doe. When I hear a buck coming, to keep him from circling down wind and busting me or cautiously approaching. I will yank on my paracord and make the deer think I'm 50 feet in a different direction. They usually walk right into me. I have never heard of anyone doing this before. Just something I thought of while driving around
@jgadventures416127 күн бұрын
@trumanmiller94 that is smart I usually hunt the old coal strips I'm in eastern Kentucky so basically same build to the land I will move from thicket to thicket real easy and call especially the ones that atv riders can't get on and the deer get confused they don't see people off the roads like that and even when they realize I'm not a deer they are kind of shocked and unsure about how to escape since I'm basically where they normally would go for safety
@tyfode224Ай бұрын
I have 12 stands and a mobile setup that I hunt each season. Most are Rut stands. You gotta have many options nowadays, due to all the hunting pressure. There are so many people moving to my region that it's not just hunters i have to dodge. Dog walkers are the worst!

I think with the public land pressure going up there's an influx from private land due to private lease's, hunting clubs, out of stater's buying up tracks of land, people moving into the "Giant Deer" states.. just to name a few.. Also I think big tracks of public get hit hard with shotgun hunters and annihilate it to a degree. All that being said guys will go elsewhere to search out spots.

When I went to Kansas 4 years ago I didn't run in to anyone while hunting. 2 of the spots were good. I had 1 big farm to myself. Unfortunately it isnt a walk in property anymore. It took me a few days to figure out. I missed the biggest buck I ever seen just under 40 yards the second full day. I stalked a pope n young class buck within the 1st minutes of being in Kansas. I couldn't shoot because the cedars were to thick. I think everyone had opportunities. 3 bucks were killed out of 5 of us. 1 guy had multiple opportunities before killing. I know the hotel I was in they were running into a lot of hunters. I was going the opposite direction. So maybe I was hunting stupid spots that were over looked. The guys killed 5 out of 5 last year.

The guy that wouldn't take you because of filming, he has a point, whether you agree or not. Heres why, there are more anti hunters than there are hunters and more importantly they stand together, hunters cant stand together to save our lives. For years hunting media was tnn on Sunday afternoon but you tube changed that and the anti hunters view it as rubbing it they're face now. Im not saying i agree either way,im looking at it objectively. Its not about being ashamed of hunting,its the fear that one day these videos we love to watch will be used as ammunition against us. Look at what South Australia did with the water buffalo video of Chris Bee. Now that video didn't take away bow hunting there but it was the final nail in the coffin,from what ive read. Again im not saying i agree or disagree either way, i just have the ability to look at things without bias, not emotionally connected and objectively. I love hunting videos but i also understand what could happen. For some reason most people love complaining, i dont understand what makes people like that. You could cater to whatever they want and they'd find something new to bitch about. At its core it's vanity, taking something that has absolutely nothing to do with them and making it about them.

With the price of private so high farms are either being sold at a premium and permission is then lost and or leasing the land. There fore increasing the demand on public. Also your stands and sticks or the saddle craze makes it more possible along with as your said onyx.

@@thehuntingbeast my guess is most are not willing to work as hard as you do and go to the lengths it takes to have success on the public,so I'm guessing it will cycle out unfortunately it may mean people quit hunting because they can't get permission,can't afford private,can't afford to lease and will soon realize it is way harder then they expected.

Do you guys know why you are seeing an increase in hunting on the public land? Let me think this shouldn't be too hard. It sure makes me happy when I take a day off and get up early, get everything ready to get to a spot and have the whole hunt ruined by other hunters. Not sure who is happy about that?
