I bought a place in Italy above a pasticceria and many other sources of food etc… waiting to close…but ferragosto. I will immerse immediately. Scary. But dive in. Your suggestion to travel is exactly my plan. When I get overwhelmed or bored… see more of Italy. Enjoy the beach!
@DavidsDoseofItaly2 жыл бұрын
Exactly ! You’ve made a courageous and admirable choice to buy a house here. This country was made for traveling , pity the roads aren’t always well maintained
@Rualnys2 жыл бұрын
I see that you’re taking the approach of catering more to the people that intend to move and live in Italy, rather than the ocasional traveler. Good thing about it is that your advice translates also to the short term tourists in the sense that they can greatly benefit from learning a bit deeper before going there than just what places to visit.
@DavidsDoseofItaly2 жыл бұрын
I never thought of it that way. Thank you. Yeah I think it’s wiser to cater to people who are looking to move and live here than tourism. Although I can certainly make those videos from time to time.

Thanks for this!!!! I'm old but want my last big adventure. I've got the lawyers working, trying to move beyond the menu/curse word/weird dialect stage of my Italian language skills! I've lived in England and traveled all around Europe so I'm always open to the native population...that's the reason to move there, to reconnect with my people! My Sicilian cousin in London was so wonderful and I am waiting to reconnect with the relatives in Campobasso...other family members have. Love that you got to Sicily!! I've done all the basic research on the food situation for me (special diet) and there are no worries there! My big problem will be resisting the food! And, no kidding...I'm monitoring the volcanoes...Vesuvius destroyed Torre del Greco once in the past and that is where my great uncle Mike moved back to when I was a kid! Have tons of pictures of them in the 60's with my favorite volcano looming behind....
@paulfreitag82672 жыл бұрын
Ciao! They have so much more scientific monitoring of volcanoes and warning systems these days that I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm 53 and live in Florence, but I would like to end up in Sicily one day soon. Stick to your dreams!!!!
@DavidsDoseofItaly2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but they’d have a hell of a time getting the population evacuated if, No, WHEN it explodes again.

Sorry what are the lawyers working on ? I believe TDG was hit around 1794 and the tower next to the main church was spared but not the church. Nice. You seem already well prepared to live here. I’m sure you won’t look back once you get here.

“Fresh of the boat” at Ellis Island in 1900 works very well indeed. . Not too sure how many foreigners are arriving at the port of Naples “ Fresh of the boat” in 2022. I did enjoy the historic reversal of the phrase. Absolutely brilliant! As always, excellent content in this video. Very helpful for foreigners some of whom are returning to the “old country!”

Hehe, I know, I don’t think anyone is coming to and from Italy by boat these days. Still it’s a good term to use and historically speaking it keeps it alive. Thank you for the positive feedback!

Italy is amazing but it is difficult to know which part to live permanently. Thank you
@DavidsDoseofItaly Жыл бұрын
It really is! You need to come here first and get an idea of what the area is like before you make the big move. The best thing to do is to reach out to people like myself and others in order to get a good idea of how your town/area of interest really is.

Nicholas, you should definitely check all of David’s videos. I’ve been a follower for a long time and every new episode delivers new knowledge and insights from the perspective of a local that so happens to be an American rather than an American than so happens to live in Rome. Subtle but important distinction.

Did you know Italian before you moved to Italy or did you learn it there?
@DavidsDoseofItaly8 ай бұрын
Yes I did and this was a great benefit. Obviously, over the years I have improved it. I begin studying Italian seriously when I was 18. I took a few courses at a community college and then I went to Florence to study at a language school for three summers. I also studied at college in America because I was thinking of teaching Italian in the United States and then I ended up coming here because I knew that it was the only way to perfect my Italian.
