This, really really, really did help. I've been taken advantage of many times. I did not realise it until it was too late. A boundary marks self-respect, which is built gradually for some. It is an imperative to establish the boundary, even if we feel we are rocking our own world and it might come apart at the seams. I love the inflection with 'and'. It's not dismissing or disrespectful, it's establishing solid concreted territory. Thanks very much for doing this, it really helped.

@@LiveOnPurposeTV Sometimes a measured reaction is appropriate. But not passivity. It should just be a reaction they weren’t expecting. Hello Kathie. What made me feel relieved once was when I was putting up with verbal and idiotic abuse from a former roommate (his apartment) is this. I started looking and asking around from others (work, acquaintances, church, groups) if they knew of a place I could temporarily ''crash'' for a few weeks. Just get the word out. I remember having several valid offers. AND just knowing (privately) I could indeed go somewhere else had me more relaxed putting up with the roommate better until I did leave. Like Dr Jenkins says see what services are there and do not be ashamed to accept the services !

Make sure you understand the difference bwtween being kind and being taken advantage of! Sometimes you dont realise your own strengths until someone tries to take advantage of your weaknesses cause that will happen. Not everyone appreciates people like us and what we do for them it puts us down! People will go out of their way to hurt others and they dont care. Its jealousy cant they cant and wont let others be happy. Dont let people walk all over you. Dont listen to what comes out their mouth they are wrong! Dont let then dictate what you can and cant do thats control thats not right, stand your ground and dont listen. Stay safe! Listen to your heart not your mind, your heart is always right.

Thank you! Great advise indeed :D Another word for unforgiveness is resentment. Someone wisely said to me "choosing to hold on to resentment or bitterness is like swallowing poison - and expecting the other person to die. The only one you are hurting is yourself" Another quote that had a major impact on my life is "it is your choice whether you take offence to something someone says or not... even when the other person's intention is to offend you." It's just another way of letting go and taking control of yourself.

What you have given us is also sage advice and very precious and valuable. For about 2 to 3 years I have had a co-worker manipulate and use me to gain my knowledge on a key set of aspects for our job. I have expertise in that area and I openly shared most of what I know and he took it and ran with it. He is now a go-to person from what I taught him. He did it to befriend me and it really is painful because, relatively, I don't have many friends at all and I opened up what I thought was a friendship, with him. Now, he is very curt and tries a strategy of making me look bad. I think that he thinks I don't know it. There's no simple way to fix this, it is nebulous and complex. He will take my forgiveness as an indication that I don't know what he has been doing and I think it might get worse. Any advice? Thank you!

You're so right about forgiveness, and I think it also takes courage. To express "agape" takes courage. There's some saying that "Revenge is like drinking poison, and then expecting the other person to die." I think it is also similar to the idea in Christianity of hating the sin, but not the sinner. Many of those who behave badly were damaged at some point in their lives. That doesn't mean that you pity them - you acknowledge (even if only to yourself) that they're toxic, and set your boundaries accordingly. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "A coward is incapable of exhibiting love - it is the prerogative of the brave"

Helping people in need, and letting people take advantage of you, are totally two separate things. When you confront the abuser, they tell you you didn't want to help me, I answer this is not help you are abusing me!

Absolutely love your videos. A comment: I think we do have the authority to personally forgive (pardon) people for bad acts committed to us, but that does not parson the person before the law or before God. A residual affect of forgiveness is the 'foomp' leaving that crap right there I am heading out!

Wow! I just now listened to you and your video for the very first time! And i LOVE how you just put it out there so honestly, plainly, so matter-of, factly, so down to earth, and so succinctly. I thought I had it all figured out. That love was the answer to everything, and being that love so wholly in my part, in any of my relationships. BUT, i found out that wasn't the case, especially when discovering i was once again in a relationship with yet again another narcissist. Not yet realizing they prey on people just like me. That my power is my weakness in such circumstances. Wanting to believe in the power of love and that love conquers all, but that's what they draw their supply from in all their ways, unbeknownst to us who want to live in love. It's so sick on so many levels. Like, who wants to draw from and kick down someone who just wants to love on the highest level possible and live in the bliss of that and kill and destroy it all and kick it into the dirt? Oh wait. That would be the narcisst! So, how does such a lover of all of life survive all that when they're in that wake? Hmm. Maybe my listening to someone like you and discovering how to stand up for oneself in that kind of dynamic. Plain and simple. Yes!!! I thought I had it all figured out. That love was the answer! And still, yes, I do believe that. But, at the same time. considering my experience, I can see how someone would attack all that if they're of a different mind. That narcissistic mind. Find the weaknesses and attach that. What is it that is most important to you that you shared with me? Love and connection is most important to you? Ok. Thanks! That's exactly the area I will attack in an effort to make you feel lesser than to devalue you so I can get my narcissistic supply. So, yes, thank you for your guidance in helping to learn how to deal with such things and people. It's very, very important, especially to us lovers of love!!!

Mental process is unique in that way that you cannot see what's happening in another person head. I wander if there's some way to master the mechanics of forgiveness? Because you can't just say 'use the force Luke' and 2 min later he is a Jedi. What we have in reality is we know we should forgive, we may even have the unique experience. But recreation of the experience in another situation, recognizing the mechanics and mental process involved and teaching(not preaching) others is totally different matter. What I see is that is the most important part of the knowledge and missing in the mainstream practices mostly because it's unknown.
@LiveOnPurposeTV3 жыл бұрын
Andriy, it is a process. Sometimes we have to work up to it and have experiences in life to show us how.
