I ordered the checklist! Super proud of you to make this a purchase able item, your time in creating this is valuable and deserves compensation. I literally this morning was thinking “I really need a checklist for tidy/cleaning”! 🤗

reminded of this that I read recently via James Clear "In theory, consistency is about being disciplined, determined and unwavering. In practice, consistency is about being adaptable. Don't have much time? Scale it down. Don't have much energy? Do the easy version. Find different ways to show up depending on the circumstances. Let your habits change shape to meet the demands of the day. Adaptability is the way of consistency."

The running donation bin was a game changer for me. Because each time I find stuff I don't want to keep, I now now where to put it. And when the bin is full, it's a sign that it's time to go to the donation center.

Erica, I wanted to echo your message with a little share. I started decluttering in about 2015. At that point, for example, I had over 30 totes of Christmas items. Full deco for many color schemes. Fast forward to today - I live in a studio and have one box which holds a 1 1/2" tree and decorations, my childhood Easter basket with a couple things, and a couple glass pumpkins. I went from having every kitchen item, including a large vintage collection to having just what I reach for daily. It feels so nice, its truly peaceful. It feels like my grandma's home which was always tidy. I'm not a minimalist, my home is decorated with furniture I love and art on the walls. I don't miss the four totes of cake pans, cookie cutters, cake decorating supplies, etc. that I never used but was very attatched to. All of this to say, there really is a freedom and joy in not having excess. I still find things to donate, over the past two weeks I've gathered four. So we are never done but there does come a time when life is suddenly much easier. Super long but hopefully encourages others to keep going. The freedom is real. 🌻🍄

I have been decluttering at least one item a day since the beginning of this year and my goal is to continue for the whole year. It’s been working great. I also started (last week) writing things down so at the end of the year I can see all the things I have let go of. Sometimes it can be something as simple as a stack of receipts. Progress!

I use card board boxes for donations, this way it gets recycled, plastic bags do not. You can get them at Aldi or most stores, you may have to ask. Regular decluttering is necessary, especially when we bring in other items. Nice job🎉

I'm at this wonderful point of the decluttering journey too that's like a maintenance mode but still making progress. Once you've decluttered so much, you can't really turn it off because you view everything with suspicious eyes! 👀

I use a pretty fabric hamper as an ongoing donation bin. I’d never put dirty clothes in it - it would get yucky. My husband and son put clothes they don’t want in the donation hamper too. When it’s full, I sort (donatable & trash), call Green Drop & schedule a donation pick up. Simple system with no mess and minimal effort.

Two weeks ago I asked our daughter to help me with my half of the wardrobe (I’ve the bottom rail). We took out bundles at a time and I tried on most and donated 30 items. It felt doable and amazing. Last week she helped me with two drawers and another 37 items went. Thanks for all your encouragement and advice over the years. I know I’m going to succeed. Belated happy International Women’s Day and Happy Mothers Day (I know ye celebrate it later in the year). Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏💪👍🙏💐

One suggestion I would have is get a donate box to put on your shelf. Tape up 3 sides and leave the front down so that way you can just toss everything in the box. Once the box is full it’s ready to be donated. I have a donate box at all times in my front closet.

Erica, thank you for sharing your advice. I completely agree with you that micro declutters as we clean each room are a great way to keep spaces clean and functional. I also think that for those of us who have been able to get our homes into that functional place where there isn’t a real excess, the key then becomes more about limiting the amount of items coming into the home and preventing general clutter hot spots or clutter blindness through excess. The mistake I think many people make is they declutter, but then continue to bring excess in. Therefore, it becomes a hamster wheel of gathering, stowing/storing, decluttering. So people never get to the a ‘comfortable’ place i.e. past the stage where constant piles or flow of stuff are coming in and out, to a place where that is just a trickle or minimal amount of things instead.

May i suggest a tweak to your primary bedroom layout? Try moving the tall boy to your husband's side, diagonally where the dog cage is. Move the white book shelves to the long wall opposite your bed, move the dog cage where the white shelves currently are. Then, hang some nice artwork that you have stored, over the white book shelves and to the left of the window. You could add a reading chair to the left of the window too!

Erica, I have inherited my parents house, I have my stuff, and their stuff and my daughter and son in law and their three kids are here. I am now 71, and I have gotten rid of of a lot of my parents stuff, but I still have stuff that they have that be,longed to my grandma. I am letting go of stuff but it is hard.

I love to watch your videos! I find them so inspirational! But I need your help if you don’t mind. I have a huge problem when it comes to decluttering my clothes. My weight has been up and down all my life. I have a huge problem with the mindset if it’s too small let it go. Thinking one day it will fit me again. Then the years pass😢 and that day don’t come. I have never had so much anxiety with decluttering anything except for the clothes. Please share any advice you can with someone who struggles with the someday it may fit.
@jennylhenry789 ай бұрын
Dawn the Minimal Mom has great advice with the mindset to dress for yourself now. Pull out everything too small (and everything too big) and only keep the most favorite of those items. Then get rid of the rest. You can still have weight loss goals but you'll feel good in what you are wearing now bc everything in your closet and drawers fit. And you won't feel guilty when you see what doesn't fit bc you won't see them anymore. 💕
@jennylhenry789 ай бұрын
PS if you emotinally can't actually donate right now, put all in a bin in your basement or attic and set a calendar reminder to take to donation after a few months.
