Great collection of tips! However, with 'fancy' cat litter boxes, most cats really dislike using enclosed boxes as they can't stay vigilant about their environment and have an easy 'escape route' from the tray. Having an inappropriate litter box will inevitably lead to problems with where the cat pees and poops. So many people complain about the cat pooping outside the tray, and baring a specific health problem, it's just because they haven't given the cat a suitable, correctly sized toilet.

Another plant tip, cats can use a large potted plant as a litter box. Mine likes the dirt, so I put large stones on top of the dirt to prevent.

I’ve often joked that I need to just redo my house and wardrobe in tweed since I have a black dog, a tri-color dog, and a long-hair caramel-colored chihuahua!

One thing I’ve started doing with my dog’s bowls is I purchased a few dining placemats from Target that match the color of our decor, to put the bowls on. I switch one out every morning and just toss them into wash, and it prevents food crumbs or watch from puddling on the floor, or having to use one of those rubber mats that get scuzzy really easily (or are usually in the shape of a bone or something a bit tacky).

7 indoor cats & one sofa. Guess who won. After 10 years we decided we really should get a new sofa. It is still in a box.... I'm scared to get it out. :D But I think I chose the wrong fabric, fortunately the covers are removable so I may try to sew a new set using some more durable fabric. My tip is for the people who want to decorate with plants: a lot of them are poisonous, and a lot of cats like to play with fresh greenery. Silk plants for the win if your cats are like mine.

Omg girl I have been waiting for this! I have searched so many times for this exact topic and came up blank! PLEASEEEE do a How to Decorate When You Have Pets #2! I have a zillion questions and I'm sure there is so much more you might be able share! My NO. 1 problem is finding fabrics etc. for my furniture that is cat scratch proof! My 1 1/2 year old cat has just started doing this and I have been pulling my hair out looking for solutions so I might save my furniture! I have found microfibre (faux suede) has helped somewhat but they don't look great and I'm sure there might be other alternatives. I'm reduced to covering my furniture with throws until I find a beautiful stylish solution, but ANYTHING you can recommend oh guru would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, love your channel!!!

As a 25 year pet parent, I can vouch for most of these ideas - I've used almost all of them. Flor tiles "rock!". And so does no carpet - unless you have a large, elderly dog.

There's anti-slip flooring for pets. For large dogs, you can purchase at Walmart a queen size egg carton mattress, fold it in three, then cover it with a waterproof mattress pad (can also get a seamstress to alter it), then just top it with your choice of blanket to match your decor. Also, for my elderly pets, my Veterinarian recommended to have raised pet bowls on stands as it takes the stress off their neck and spine from having to bend down to eat and drink.

We have 8 cats and I have an extensive Jonathan Adler collection... so far we have been lucky... but our cats also have a huge cat tree, tons of scratchers, toys , plenty of things to keep them occupied...but we also don't have any plants or dangley items any where near my Adlers.. they tend to know and accept where they are and aren't allowed to be...I love listening to your advice and ideas, you get me thinking.. We have a zoo here I swear. 2 female cats (+1 male that is not ours but still acts like he owns this place), 1 dog, 2 guinea pigs, and 1 chameleon (+his alive food). Although the last one doesnt make a mess, the others do, so this video really helps, thank you! 😊

Nice tips! Here is a tip for dog owners: If your dog tends to have indoor accidents, you might want to try this: find the area he likes to "go" in. Put some tarp down, and put puppy pee pads on top. They are very easy to clean up and it will protect your floor. When you have guests, just pick them up and lay them down again when the guests are gone.

Love these tips! Would add that there are a lot more machine-washable rugs on the market lately - even large ones. It sounds dramatic but switching to machine-washable rugs (including an 8x10) has really made made my life easier! And YES to outdoor fabrics, etc. Pet people in particular should consider outdoor furniture + furnishings for indoor use! xo

Great tips. Really like the separate rug squares suggestion and the quake putty. I have some Alien 2 way tape that will work just as well for possible tip over items - thought never occurred to me until now to literally bond them in place. Congrats on 100K. 👏🏼👊🏼

Congratulations on the 100K subs and for this video (I have a white cat and 2 toddler boys and another boy on the way in September!) Funny how this advice is good for both lol lol. My advice for a white cat is have lighter natural colour floor. So I agree with the matching comment! We used to have dark floor and it was a nightmare!!! I guess if you had a dark shedding pet, the advice would be the opposite. And amen to the robot vacuum. PS: not to brag, but I've been around since you had about 1500 subs. You grew so fast! Must be the high quality content 😁 PPS: I think it was the plant video that brought me to your channel.

Just a few quick comment about pets and rugs: Some dogs mistake rugs for grass. They may be housebroken and prefer to 'do their business' outside, but they can often mistake rugs for a pee/poo patch. And once 'tagged', the scent does not easily wash out; YOU may no longer be able to smell it, but the dog will (it's been estimated that dogs can smell anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 times better than people). Test them on this awareness issue with smaller. inexpensive rugs before making a larger purchase. As for "scooting" on rugs, you need to bring this up to your vet to find the cause. There can be a medical issue (irritation, parasites) or a physical reason (anal glands need to be expressed), or even a nervous disorder (this includes compulsive licking or other nervous conditions) that medication, training, or care can correct. My favorite fridge magnet seen in a pet-themed store: In this house, fur is a condiment My two favorite pet dishes are 1. collapsible silicone food bowl (easy-clean, transportable) 2. white porcelain ramekin water bowl (resistant to being knocked over, available at most thrift stores at a low price point) A friend of mine with several cats was complaining that the cats keep knocking over their food and water bowls. I suggested those baby bowls with suction cup bases. She switched to that (one size for food, different size for water, each accommodating volume needs) and is quite pleased with the results.

I’m decorating my new apartment for myself and my cat. Window treatments are a bit tricky because no drapes are allowed (unless always pulled back; uniformity looking at buildings from outside), and my cat will destroy them anyway. Also, I noticed he gets annoyed when the drapery panel is in the way as he travels from one windowsill to my workstation to the other windowsill. I’m going to try wrapping faux plants around the curtain rod. Work in progress.

Love your ideas! If anyone has great litter box suggestions please share! Love the decorative boxes but hear they’re a PITA to clean. I had an idea To put it under a desk, & tack fabric around the bottom to conceal so box is still on the floor w/ good clearance because she’s a big Maine coon! Also the lighter the wood flooring the better. Getting dark hardwood was a huge design Flaw on my part.

I have a small dog but very well behaved thank God! She did vomit on the rug but nothing more sinister than that. I always make sure when I am not at home that nothing dangerous is left on the floor or at her reach. I have the sofa and armchairs seats covered with same colour throws to keep them clean. Her bowls are in the kitchen on a big plastic union Jack tray lol, keeping floor clean. My sofa and armchairs are velvet so I would never have a cat. My dog always has her paws washed when getting back from walks she knows and goes to the bathroom automatically. For chewers just rub the furniture they like to chew with hot pepper:). Does the trick. I have a baby blanket on my dog bed that I can wash frequently, other than that I don't ash the be as it is clean. and my dog mainly sits and sleeps wherever I am.

I live in a condo and the HOA has a stupid rule that my unit must be carpeted. I want to replace my carpet by the end of summer but have a cat that throws up A LOT. And, despite have two great scratching posts that he uses, he also likes to sharpen his claws on the carpet. Hope there's a carpet out there that can withstand cat puke and razor claws. Question: if a robot sweeper goes over puke or droppings, will the sweeper smear that junk all over the floor?

There are many products available to avoid cats' hair balls which is what your cat has, they came in tubes and is similar to a brown toothpaste.

@@funkpois3704 It's not hairballs--he was a stray and gulps his food quickly and then throws up; have tried several things and will keep trying others. But in the meantime I need a carpet that can withstand cat puke. He also has feline leukemia and feline HIV---it's more than just hairballs.

A robot vacuum will definitely smear the puke/droppings around the carpet. There are food bowls that are shaped like mazes, which slow down eating. I use one for my dachshund. Have you tried that?
