Love that you can do decoupaging on dark surfaces, that I had to give this a try as soon I found your video. Help Please, I did all the steps I believe correct. Where I ran into a problem was the white paint it shows through to the front of the napkin what did I do wrong. It really shows that it is painted.
@masoncreationsetc11 ай бұрын
Hi Brenda, The image on your napkin may have blank areas or maybe the image isn't dense. If there are any blank areas that don't have any print, the paint will show through. Examine your napkin and see if this is the case. Maybe try a different napkin. Let me know if this works for you. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

I had the same issue with rice paper and the white paint showed awful around the torn edges 🤷🏼♀️
@masoncreationsetc10 ай бұрын
Hi Donna, This method doesn't work well on rice paper. Rice paper is too porous so the paint bleeds through. You definitely shouldn't take the paint all the way to the edges though. The only thing that should have any paint, would be the actual image. No paint on any of the blank areas. Rice paper isn't translucent enough to be able to get the paint on the back accurately. It works much better on a napkin. Even with the napkin though, only paint the image, nothing on any of the blank areas. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

Hi Rosemary, I used Decorators varnish in this video, but since then I've started using Heavy Duty Wood varnish for everything. It works really well. It's good on all surfaces. This particular formula is moisture and heat resistant as well as food safe. So it is really good for coasters or anything in a kitchen or bathroom. I use the satin finish. It deepens to a deep shine when you add several coats. I'll leave you the link below. You really can't go wrong with any of the Polyvine products. They all work amazingly well. All of them can be used for decoupage glue as well as a final varnish. It just depends on which one you like better and for me it's the heavy duty wood varnish. What a revelation! Polyvine is far superior to Mod Podge, it looks colorless. No more white streaks! Your “magic hands” have done it again. That Teddy Bear on that black background was so high end looking! I had also thought of painting the back of the paper white as well. then I decided to paint Mod Podge on the one ply napkin or cop paper, first to stiffen it and make it easier to work with before applying directly to my board, no water method. You’ve taught us a much better way, so thanks for all your experimenting, your time and patience, so we can benefit from it.

@masoncreationsetc11 ай бұрын
Hi Peggy, Polyvine is actually a varnish, but works excellent as a glue as well. It works so much better than Mod Podge for decoupaging. Here are the steps. 1. wet the napkin. 2. Paint the Polyvine on item. 3. Place item on the wet Polyvine. I'm going to leave you a link for another video that will be helpful for you. Hi there Witchy Woman! It's so nice to see you. I'm so happy that you always love my projects. Is the cookie sheet vinyl or silicone? Silicone is the magic, I'm not sure vinyl would work. But if it's able to be used in an oven, I'm going to guess it's probably silicone. Not sure about the topcoat. I would try it on a sample piece of napkin and see what happens. I know for a fact the Polyvine works and Mod Podge does not. I tried them both. What you need is for the edges of the napkin to turn completely clear so you don't have to fussy cut an intricate design. I say give it a sample try and let me know how it turns out. I'd love to know! Thanks for always watching and send me messages. Love hearing from you 💖😊

I just watched your video through decoupage napkins it was cool. But you don't say which is best to get. Gloss, matte or flat? I believe it's the one with the butterfly but wasn't sure which kind to get as far as finish?

Hi there! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video. I used the Heavy Duty Wood Varnish in a Satin finish, which is actually pretty glossy. It's great for trays and coasters because it's heavily resistant to water and heat. It's the one with the shells on the bottle. You can use whichever finish you prefer. I haven't actually tried it with the flat finish though. I've ordered a bottle of that and will be testing it out as well. You want to make sure whichever one you use, makes the edges of the napkin turn clear so you don't have to fussy cut. Also; thanks for subscribing. I love making new crafty friends 😊💖 1. Paint Polyvine on silicone mat 2.Put your prepped napkin on a piece of plastic face up, spray with water. 3. Delicately smooth out the large wrinkles, don't worry about small ones. 4. Lay the napkin and plastic on the wet Polyvine and smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles through the plastic, then remove plastic and let dry. Your napkin should be face down, backside up. 5. Paint another layer of Polyvine over the napkin and let dry, repeat another coat of Polyvine and let dry. The coats of Polyvine on the back of the napkin keeps the white paint from seeping through the napkin. So make sure you put enough on. You can do as many coats as you want. It won't hurt it. 6. Once dry you can peel it up off the mat and paint the backside of the napkin white, only in the printed areas. Don't put the white in any areas that are blank or the white paint will show through. Why not just use a photocopy ? All the white painting is a lot of work.

Hi there, You sure can use a photocopy, but it's a very different look from a napkin. I do use photocopies as well as napkins and rice paper. If you choose to use a napkin, this is just a solution for a dark background. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
