Have you ever removed the motor from your bike to give it a deep clean? Let us know 👇

I just did a similar clean on my '19 Turbo Levo and discovered that the boot on the motor power connector was badly torn (motor end). That explains why the bike had recently refused to turn on after a bike wash. I thoroughly cleaned that connector and then wrapped it with electrician's tape.

At the end of the day doesn’t matter which motor you have the principles he has shown are the same just some of the tools will need to be different the important thing he showed was not to go crazy with the harsh chemicals like degreaser it will corrode most alloyed metals and electrical contacts and I can not emphasis enough just how important Dielectric Grease is especially if you are washing regularly or playing in the mud often, it is also good to apply to Every electrical connections on the bike, the video was well done and hopefully save a lot of people a lot of grief 👍

Would be great if you guys could do a similar video for the Bosch Performance Line CX? Any chance?

Its basically the same but you need that special spider tool , but beware, there are two sizes out there, first i bought the wrong size 😂

Tip for getting levo cranks off is to loosen self removing bolt and take it for a short hard ride to free up super tight spline fit then you'll find it easier to wind the crank bolt off. The main power lead from battery to motor is prone to fail . The third generation replacement one has two white zip ties and origin ones have one big black zip tie. E=Mtb² By the way the main motor bearings are not really sealed so be very careful washing bike and don't lie it on its side while low pressure hosing. Cheers.

Really helpful video, thanks Chris. Couple of points if anyone is doing this on their Levo: 1. You don't need to remove the crank and chainring if you're not taking off the motor cover. Even then you don't need to take off the drive side. 2. On the 2022 levo the battery connector is routed up round above the motor so you need to drop the motor to work on it 3. I found it a LOT easier to have the bike upside down instead of on the stand 4. Dropping the motor is useful on the Levo because you can grease the contact points between the motor and the frame which are common sources of creaks

I have a Brose motor on my Bulls mountain bike, so it was great to see some of the detail. I haven't done a clean, but it seems straightforward. My bike has a dual front chainring setup, so potentially a little more complex to remove with the derailleur. Thanks for the video.

Fantastic Chris! I actually replaced the bearings in my Bosch CX line motor and became quite familiar with. Now I know what to expect from the Brose.
@sethtrey3 жыл бұрын
If you do remove the motor, be super careful arranging/packing the wires back in there before replacing it. Especially for Bosch bikes (huge connectors), especially especially if they have tons of lights, horns, etc. More stuff, more wires, and most of them are coiled up in there rather than cut to length. If it's Specialized, they were careful for you. A pinched wire will wreck your day.

I always remove my covers after sponging off, then remove water with paper towels and a small compressor to blow water out then use a silicon spray on my wires n bolts😊👍

Most ebikes are not that easy to work on. You typically need an isis crank puller, something which you do not need that often and most people don't have. Removing the spider is also a pain sometimes, depending on the model. On my haibike you need either a special tool from haibike or a 36mm standard socket which isn't guaranteed it won't destroy the spider. Not to mention there are lots of situations where you basically destroys screws and you don't have any spares - and neither your lbs. Better wait until something doesn't work and only then start working on the bike at this level. Recently I removed my motor's skid plate. I also removed it in the past a couple of times as dirt tends to accumulate inside. Cleaned it, all nice and shiny, put new grease on the screws, was really produd. Until the last screw didn't quite thread. 3 hours wasted for a single screw. Never touching the skid plate again in my life.

Dielectric grease, is a silicone-based grease that repels moisture and protects electrical connections against corrosion. ... The grease , so it shouldn't be applied directly to the mating surfaces (pins and sockets) of an electrical connection.
@HarryKuloh8 ай бұрын
What?
@400_billion_suns6 ай бұрын
That’s a common misconception, but it’s incorrect. Dielectric grease can be used directly on electrical contacts, and is in fact meant to be used this way to help prevent fretting corrosion, as well as make connections water-resistant. It is true that the grease itself is non-conductive, but when connectors are mated, the grease is scraped away at the contact points, leaving the contact resistance unchanged vs. a dry connector.

I recently went on a ride on my ebike that has a bosch 3rd gen drive unit which ended up pretty much fully submerged in a puddle that was deeper than expected, it didn't seem to harm the bike, but do you think it'll be necessary to open up the motor casing to see if it left much behind or are they designed to not mind this too much?

If you have a turbo levo, you don't have to worry about cleaning the motor. The motor breaks and will need to be replaced anyway. Easy Peazy!

Why do they use such a long cable then put a big bend in it. I've heard of people having trouble with that.
@dewindoethdwl27983 жыл бұрын
I’m guessing it’s a case of the same cable doing for a number of motor formats (& not just MTBs). One length for all saves money on supply. Otherwise it could provide better support as it touches the casing in a number of places.
