Since I own pairs of suede shoes that are actually MSRP $2,000+ dollars, not that price point inflated (although they’re formal shoes and not trainers), and clean them on a normal basis, I would say this is a good guide. Temperature is extremely important in preserving the colour of the suede, cold water won’t cause the colour to run, but will contract the pores of the leather and compromise the integrity of the leather if you do this repeatedly. If you’re cleaning a pair of shoes maybe 2-3 times a year, wouldn’t worry about the water being too cold, but certainly don’t wash too hot. There are ways to rejuvenate the colour of suede, Saphir brand has a ton of suede “dye” colours in an aerosol, it won’t recolour the suede, but by applying it the the nap in ONE direction, it’ll help the colour quite a bit.

You can use vinegar and water instead of soap so you don't get soap film after it dries. The vinegar also dissolves the dirt without affecting the nap after is dries

I've made this mistake too. The color is just faded man. This may work on lighter colored suede, but those darker ones always leave some color behind. I know they didn't seem to bleed at all, but the pre-wash color is darker. There's no getting away from that.

Suede is very delicate and naturally fades from wear and tear. Using a premium suede cleaner will still cause the trainer to fade slightly even if you lightly brush the trainer. Also if the trainers has stains, brushing the suede in a light/circular motion won’t do the job, this requires a deep clean which will cause the suede to lose some colour. Dirty trainers tend to make the suede look darker anyway...

Boil some water in a pot and hold the shoes over the steam (not too close). After holding them over the steam for 10-15 seconds take a suede brush (I’d recommend buying one as they’re very handy) and gently brush the suede. Repeat these steps until the suede is soft again.
