I went thru beat block earlier this year. What i used to do to combat it was a few things. 1 I'd get with my boys and just do somethingbof a group session..only 2 of us made beats but the input from our other boys who have a genuine live for music would kind of break that. If i couldnt get up with my boys id would do 15min beat drills where I'd pick 7 sounds and getbit in. This year i had to switch it up because i moved to a new city and the 15min drills werent giving me what i need so i switched my process. Instead of starting with my melody i started with my drums. At first my rhythm was basic af but it got better with time..because i was literally doing this for my first beatbof the day.

I try a few things whenever i have beat block.... 1. Buy new sounds/new instruments or VSTs - i find that often times we need a new sound that we haven't heard before to get some creative juices flowing. You might hear a new sound you didn't have that sparks an idea 2. Collaborate with somebody. - i think people gotta not be afraid to collaborate sometimes. See if you can get somebody to play something over your tracks or try out new ideas that you wouldn't usually do on your own. 💯💯

When I’m going through a beat block I either try to inspire myself by listening to other people’s music, or I try to get out of my comfort zone by experimenting with different music genres. And if this doesn’t work I just simply take a break from beat making to clear my mind.

Good info Sir!!
@celmbeats3 ай бұрын
Us producers are always in our heads. We have to remember we make these beats for artists. That example of the artist liking a beat you didn't like can help with confidence and get things flowing again. Because when you raise the bar, it can lower your confidence, until your confidence catches up to your new bar.

Awesome video! 💫💥💯 I can imagine that being around like-minded people will give you inspiration to create. Even a little gem from one of them can get the ball rolling for you to try something new. Also, if you like a particular vst/sound bank, switch to something else. The different sound will also serve as inspiration to do something new.

I sometimes get beat block if I don't make a beat in more than a week or spend too much time playing video games. But, brainstorming with splice, arcade, and the maschine or an MPC with no particular goal usually ease me out of beat blocks.
@leogolive3 ай бұрын
I’m the exact opposite. When I have beat block I stop messing with the beats. I just start playing guitar instead and I’ll do that for however long it takes. I’m still being musically creative. And vice versa. When I start to get stuck when I’m playing guitar I put it down and go mess with the MPC. Even after 23 years things can get stagnant when playing guitar. And whenever I take this approach it never fails that whenever I go back to these things I get far better results. But of course everyone is different.

FLIP MIDI!! I sometimes use samples but now days I try to stay away from samples unless its producers i know or if i can own it and know exactly who all made it but flipping midi when u get beat block works wonders. you can take one of your more complicated progressions you made in the past and flip it a million ways by just rearranging notes and using transpose and different effects.

Usually I try a different genre that I like besides trap or whatever. Pick a popular song from a different genre and try to recreate it by ear. Basically how you get good at any instrument.
@thomasmatthews88733 ай бұрын
No doubt about it. I get hit with it. I'll go in then have to start a new project ( I don't erase nothing) cause the previous lost zest along the way. But I'll come back and revise that file on a later date with new perspective and a fresh ear.

People have to learn they will never be another person even if they want to be everyone time and groove is unique. So don't be afraid of listening to other to get new ideas. Miles Davis, Art Blakey, even today Herbie Hancock were always getting young up and coming musicians in their bands, to get fresh ideas and energy into their music. You feel creative block, listen to some new artist, listen different type of music, go hear some live music, one of those is going to give you new ideas.

You tend to get fed up with folks saying “Yeah… we need to hook up and work!” Then later “EMPTY WIND AND TUMBLEWEEDS😒” I’m at the physical point in my life where I have good equipment, loads of higher end plugins and MAINLY… TIME! Cause I’m now retired and I’d love nothing more than to allow younger artists to come through and work! But since my lab is at the home front… I have to be cautious of who all I allow to come through.🤷🏾♂️ (Caught in that proverbial CATCH-22!)
