Because that’s the only double step back that wasn’t called a travel that exists lol. Ppl act like this happens every day. Nope. Go look at a compilation of Harden double step backs. This is the only one you’ll find. They try to throw in some others, but he dribbles the ball between the 2 step backs. You’re actually allowed to dribble the ball and move backwards without it being a travel lol.

GunsGiftsGalleries depends on who he’s guarding, the step back will be forever be hard to guard, giannis is 6’11 but his center of gravity is higher so for him to guard let’s say harden, he’ll effortlessly be able to sauce him up, then hit the step back, which harden has done, multiple times, harden is impossible to guard mainly because he’s mastering the step back

It's a FACT that defense back then was allowed to be more physical, but that doesn't necessarily mean players were easier to stop than now, or that today's players are far worse defenders than back then. Many people use that for some downright ridiculous statements (Jordan could score 50 a game without hand checking easily). There is a lot less 1 v 1 defense in today's NBA and a lot more team defense, and since ISO heavy players are pretty rare, their skill set becomes far more recognizable.

AFTER he takes the first outward step, he brings his other hand onto the ball, and takes his 1-2 as he lands from the backward jump, and goes up into the shot. not a travel. look at it in slow-mo if you want
