Wow! In 1985-1986 as an Army infantryman l was taught the EXACT technique by my squad leader…a man with extensive training…currently an 8th degree Suchidon…not sure spelling ….at 70 years of age. He was one of those quiet professionals who wore an “interesting green cap” and he introduced me to some “ guys” with “ beards and jeans” who showed me similar techniques. Your channel and advice is 100% “ ON”. No BS…no fluff…just accurate training for accurate results. Great Job

I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s well worth reiterating. As a martial arts practitioner for years, I’ve always taught my family to be aware of anything in your immediate surroundings that could be used as a weapon should the need arise. Simply glance around and take note of anything that you could grab and use to defend yourself in a situation. I’ve coined the term “W.O.O.”, which stands for a weapon of opportunity. If you put yourself into this mindset as you go about your day, you’ll see that there are countless items that can become a weapon should you need one. GOD Bless 🙏

Very true. That is one of the reasons when I go into a grocery store, even if for only one item, I always grab a shopping cart. The full size, not the little ones. It gives me something to use to put between myself and an attacker to give time to respond.

Important point here, if you can manage it, avoid hitting into the wrist. I took a bottle to the face once because I did this exact technique and the my left forearm point of impact was right into wrist. This caused his hand to release the bottle which continued on it's path resulting in a very large number of stitches in my face after the fight was over. Target the middle of forearm combined with shoulder or bicep for better results and if you drive in deep the weapon will be completely behind you in any event. Basically you want to be standing in the space he was in or even further when your forward momentum stops.

Very good point and I've seen this happen in class. Ideally you want to be so in that if the weapon is let go (bonus!) it flies harmlessly behind your head. You can also use the forearm nearest to his bicep (if blocking a two hand swing) and glide up with a straight punch to his head. This turns a dull two hand block into an attack from the same motion of the block.

I was attacked by two men with a baseball bat. First one was holding me down and the second swung at my head. It was a surprise attack by invited guests. Luckily both were relatively small. I was able to turn enough that it broke my right scapula. I hooked the attacker with my right leg so they both were in front of me. I was hit several more times in the legs before I could get up. I’m a 5th degree so I took both of them down, across the room but broke a rib in the disarm. I think I more fell on the bat then I did get struck with it at that point. I took the bat, my pistol, and my phone outside at that point and told them if they tried to leave I would shoot them, and called the police. My locals have typically less than a 2 minute response time as I live .7 miles from their station. I’ll continue to watch but my advice is just don’t get hit in the head, and stay mentally and physically ready to deal with any level of pain or fight that doesn’t put you out. I’ve never felt pain during a fight. I do after. Had that first strike hit my head I’d likely be gone. Also, be very careful whom you invite into your home.

@@well-blazeredman6187 I know once the threat is over I can’t shoot someone BTW. However those two didn’t know that. I am qualified to train LEO’s in firearm usage. And by that point I knew I was hurt and extremely upset with them. I didn’t clarify that point. I’ve taken lives and never wish to again. I could have shot both of them legally in the moment. I’ve spent 20 years on a mat so I don’t have to shoot, although I carry anytime I’m dressed and I will if I have to. God Bless! It’s Church Day. We’re a small country Church so little threat. However it would be wise to not mess with us. My security team and I train 4 times a year. We have a two minute meeting before service to define responsibilities. Pastor carry’s too. Our nursery and Sunday School is downstairs and at a spry 44, I’m semi retired and always have that assignment if anything happens as I practice getting down there fast often. Our people once I qualify them will get a letter from Pastor to CCW so there’s at least 10-12 others that do. His entire Flock knows the emergency word to get down. Heck I carry a little PPK most of the time anymore. I’ve never shot more than 4x in a gunfight and HST’s in that caliber will do the job. I just run a 4 man team but won’t deny anyone that’s qualified from carrying to protect their family. Plus it’s a chance to educate those that don’t know much. I can show them what can be done with proper carry and a proper holster.

@@LogisticallyMisrepresented Simple answer. One was my emancipated son and the other “that uncle” everyone has. I have a large home and they both play guitar very well, even if not my style they could jam as loud as they wanted. My kid had set up the guitar room which I allowed in the upstairs master. Which explains why I didn’t shoot them. My uncle was a dead man but by the the time I could access my CCW I’d hooked my son behind him and didn’t want to have a pass through on my 115# uncle that killed my kid too. The uncle, he’d have got it had I been able. He started the entire thing. I was in a recliner. Luckily I’m BJJ, the second I got him off of me I flipped. I was in the worst position ever to fight from with a flat on my back knocked over recliner and my legs sticking up. I was about 190# at the time and my kid was 6’1” 135. Uncle is 5’6” and 115. Once I was in the fight it wasn’t one and yes I had a gun drawn but I’ll let my kid kill me before I ever shoot him.

@@fredthe47th👍... Well, you're right about that concept, Fred... I can't speak for "most people"; but, I'd been through the "baseball bat scenario"; back in 1981 or 2... A guy I worked with, had asked me to help "move his girlfriend over to live with him"... Little did I know, that she was already "living with" SOMEBODY ELSE! Well, DUDE came towards the 3 of us men, with a Louisville Slugger perched on his shoulder and gripping it, as if he were standing at home plate and "trying to hit a home run"!!! My "friends" scattered like little girls, but; I guess my "BAC" was just about to the point, where I could "leap tall buildings in a single bound"; and... Well, I DID have a Model 10/69 Smith and Wesson in a shoulder holster... I just stood there, leaning against the grill of my truck, with my arms folded, (non-threateningly) {with my right hand firmly upon those walnut grips} stared right into "Dude's" eyes and slowly sidestepped to the corner of the hood, then calmly SIDESTEPPED to the door handle and got in and drove away (complete with the Bimbo!) Well, the next thing ya know; "DUDE" is chasing us down the road, in HIS truck!!! Rather than "lead him straight to the new address"; I went to a bar that I sometimes drank lunch at. As it turned out; I guess "DUDE" realized that he was "being done a favor" and politely asked me if he could buy me a drink!!! (Talk about unexpected OUTCOMES!!!)

Make the block and response the same move. One very effective method is to block with the left hand, and drive, and I mean DRIVE through their throat with the other. Meaning you are aiming about 3 feet behind the person so you commit to a full force through the person AND downward. So, your hands are coming up as you strike, both the block and throat, then as you drive through the throat with your right hand you drive toward the ground. This takes them completely off their feet in a very effective method and is harsh enough to give you time to get away while they are gathering their wits. They may choose to give up anyway instead of pursuing you.

@@NickFrom1228 Thats true, hitting small targets with hand strikes are notoriously difficult to land under pressure though let alone while blocking something else simultaneously Imagine trying to compute the timing of intercepting the weapon strike, their movement, your movement, the range, getting your blocking arm in position at the right angle while also trying to coordinate your other hand to strike a small moving target.. while having the tunnel vision that comes from being attacked.. thats a lot Also trying to split your body weight between throat strike and blocking the weapon might not be a great thing, just grabbing for the shoulder lets you put everything into neutralizing that attacking arm Then you can switch to putting everything into a counter strike or arm drag or throw or whatever your skill set is

@@driver3899 True. It turns into what have you trained for vs not. Someone who has trained, and not specifically this attack/response scenario per se, but has trained enough to have the fighting mindset and movement down, will ultimately find much better success. There are a lot of things going on all at once so those who have mastered some of them already will not have as much to deal with when presented with some particular scenario. With all the variables involved it is difficult to judge any particular persons success but if they have some basic idea of what to do they are much better off than going at it blind.

There are quite a few methods to stop the motion of the tool he's using, keeping in mind that you are attacking the weapon not the tool. Stopping that shoulder is important, as for bringing the other arm up forearm to forearm, just keep your elbow down or you might slide right over the top of his arm.

A bat will be used as a horizontal two handed swinging weapon . I was taught and then Tati get inside the arc of the swing , grab the wrist as you turn and then grab the butg of the handle and twist it away as you continue turning g. At the end you will have disarmed the attacker and will be wound up for a strike to the knee which will be disabling . The defense against a single handed bludgeon, will be more akin to your technique, which can continue into an arm lock, break or a takedown

If someone is trained in Judo or a similar martial art that type of situation is perfect for a hip toss or shoulder toss. Step into the person and depending on the specific situation either do a hip toss or a shoulder toss. Once they're on the ground you can run away or stay and kick them unconscious.

That is exactly what I was thinking. My advice is run if you don't have a gun. If you're backed into a corner, you must make a fake charge at them to get them to swing and charge them. Charge them anyway regardless. Just make sure you close the distance. It's really something you cannot teach. Like how long or short is the bat. Does it have spikes welded on it? Just something to think about.

My unprofessional advise is to still close the gap. Depending on how high/low it appears that they are swinging, try to hit the groin. Maybe use a head, fist or knee to the groin. Other option is to tackle them low at the knees with your hands while pushing up with your upper body and legs and drop them on their back. Then a groin hit, neck/throat chop, double eye gouge, ear punch, upward hit to the nose or just run like hell. Try to get the weapon away from them if it is easy, but don't necessary struggle.

Still close the distance and "take away the swing. I don't know why this guy is talking about blocking, don't do that. Try to get an underhook on the swing side. Then how ever you feel strongest. Either hooks both sides like a bear hug. Or hook the swing side with a hand to their face/throat. Or hook swing side and punch with the free hand. You can also try to get in, clinch, then immediately break the clinch to make space for your attack. They still have the bat, but you just turned it from defense to offense.

Still close the distance. Block at the elbow of the attackers closest arm. It will hurt them. Plus, if you miss the block and still get hit, it is better to be hit closer to your attackers hands are. The speed of the weapon will be less, and the "lever" effect of a club will be reduced.

One to five step sprints up to, in to, through, and around the attacker is what will save you and/or give you victory over them. If you want to take an attacker down then you need to know how to grab him, then sprint in a direction that immediately throws the attacker off balance. Love your videos. Keep em coming !!

Excellent instruction. Closing the distance reduces the leverage the attacker has and removed you from the target area. The forearm to forearm block stops the motion of the weapon and the shoulder slap keeps the arm from bending at the elbow. Simple, and effective. Thank you, Jason for showing me this technique. How would it differ if the attacker is punching more straight on with their fist? It looks like the forearm to forearm contact might be difficult if they are punching straight at you from above? You're stopping them before they get the kinetic force built up. We used to do sword takeaways in Aikido. The attacker had a sword (two handed) and the defender had empty hands. Surprisingly easy to take that sword away. First you blend with the attack, then use their strength and momentum to complete the move. They have no choice but to let go. In Jason's example it's a bit different but essentially you stop the momentum of the strike before it get's started (backswings are dumb!). The move is boom-boom. Stop the strike, give 'em a strike to diver their attention from wanting to hurt you... like rolling on the ground holding their balls.
@NickFrom1228
@NickFrom1228 Жыл бұрын
As Richard says, you are stopping them before the momentum. This is why Jason is stressing moving in. If you move in after the person has developed a lot of striking force (momentum) you are too late. Read your opponent and move like lightning. The thing about both hands is you can totally ignore the non-dominant hand in reality. If you only have 30 seconds to teach someone an effective technique for this situation it is "When you see the first signs of someone winding up for a strike you move like lightning and plow through them like a train and keep running." With that you have spoiled their attempt, possibly knocked them to the ground and you have a head start. I'm up for delivering a solid sankyo as anyone but in reality, the keep it simple principle is always a good rule.

This is assuming the attacker is going to do a windup and overhead swing, but what if the attacker swings at you mid level, like he's doing a line drive? Obviously this technique will not work in that scenario. Please do a follow up. Thanks!

what about against a double handed attack? if the attacker is swinging with both hands? the forearm and shoulder blocks aren't easy to get it in that scenario.

I kinda figured closing the distance would end a possibility of an attacker with a bat having enough momentum to cause harm., but I had no clear idea what to do after that, other than blindly making crap up as I go. LoL. THANK YOU for adding some direction here. It's more reassuring having an actual follow-up than just closing the distance. 👍

It very much depends on the distance. Fights are not perfect like in the dojo and when people are trying to hurt you they are not always squared off at the same distance. Practice with your friends using a foam bat that has some weight. Let your partner know that you will first try to come in as he brings the bat backwards to his shoulder. Then take one step back and work on closing the distance at which point the bat will be coming forward. Then get to a point where you are so far away that the easier defense is to lean back to let the swing through and then go in on the recovery as the bat is going towards his left shoulder. Many schools fail this distance variation and always start from a perfect distance.

Had a similar situation. The guy swung across horizontally at my head. I stepped in turning my right shoulder to his right shoulder and we ended up with him being directly behind me and off balance as his left forearm connected with my right side. I continued my turn pulling the bat right out of his hands. When the move was finished, I had a bat and he had a dumb look on his face. Here endeth the lesson.

LOL having been hit 10 x by a 6'3" dude who weighed 160kgs and was a very good security officer I can say that it hurts though I was so annoyed at him I couldn't feel it as I was throwing the other 2 guys down the hall way whilst he hit me. :D I had rage problems... The second time I had something like that was an Axe and I dodged it and grabbed his throat and his hand with the axe in it.. Don't bother your not me, I practiced 6-8 hours of tennis and basket ball other sports every day my hand to eye was awesome. When I walked into job as Head of security arresting 3-5 a day I dealt with 5 knife fights 3 syringes and funny enough I had a guy come into my house at 4:00am with a knife who I swiftly kicked out and he went to jail.. Many of those knife attempts I simply stopped with one hand at their knife hand and the other at their throat, often they forgot about the knife as they started to choke and get their throat crushed.. fear over came them and they realized they had no control. Quickly get close in, grab knife hand thus slowing its thrust and grab their throat and squeeze.. that's what I did.

@jamesritchie8170
@jamesritchie8170 Жыл бұрын
When using the forearm, ensure your fist is leaning forward from the elbow. This prevents the attacker's weapon from going upwards towards your head. Any club weapon will hurt, but the danger zone is the last 3 inches of the weapon. if you take a hit from the weapon, try to take it closer the where the attacker's hand is, it has less energy. A good resource is Arins Martial Arts books or classes. Additionally, I would also use my blocking forearm to slide down and grab his wrist. Studied Kenpo for 35 years and was also an instructor for 10 years.

I like fein an advance which causes the bat holder to swing, then I close the distance, after the swing. I see bat wielders swing horizontally, like swinging at a baseball, not swinging downward. They also tend to use both hands, like in your video thumbnail pic.

Interesting. In Judo we were taught a different technique, step to the left while grabbing the opponent's wrist with your right hand. Then wrap your left arm over his as you turn to the right. Once you are in that position you twist his wrist while dropping your entire body weight on his elbow. Done correctly it is either going to cause an immense amount of pain or break his arm. I think this is a Ju Jutsu technique as well.

Thanks for the video. I usually walk with a cane. If the attacker is still far enough away for me to drive a straight thrust into his solar plexus with my cane, am I more likely to survive by a hard thrust to his solar plexus with the cane or with the technique that you show here? I use a cane that is about 37 inches long. From what I remember, most bats are about 32 to 34 inches long. If he's swinging the bat with the technique you show, the bat is not reaching more than a foot or two in front of him until he completes his swing. If I'm in a good thrust position with my cane, the tip of my cane is 37 inches in front of my hand which is about 22 to 24 inches in front of my shoulder. If I turn my torso into my thrust, I get another few inches of space between my head and the tip of my cane. I don't expect to hit the solar plexus perfectly, but any thrust that hits ribs or sternum is going to push him backwards. If he's swinging for my face, his bat has a good chance of passing over my thrusting arm. Unless he's falling, I'm still going to try to close and making a swinging strike with my cane while his bat is on the other side of his body. If I can't making a swinging strike with the cane, I might try a head butt. To me, the alternative would be trying to close on the attacker while holding my cane. If my cane is in my left hand and his bat is in his right hand, I would try to hit his right forearm with my cane and use my right hand as you show. If my cane is in my right hand and his bat is in his right hand, I'm not sure what I'd do.

My buddy is a retired officer. Also former swat. He showed me this move. He said when blocking drive into the clavicle (collar bone) and it will likely break and is excruciatingly painful. The it’s either take out the knee or direct strike to the face or throat. I guess the instep neutralizes the force and direction.

When I was younger someone attacked me with a 2 handed broadsword. These have some weight to them so his back swing was off to the side, not up high. When he went back I stepped in on that side and put my arm around his neck in a headlock. This trapped both of his arms to that side because he didn't want to drop the weapon. So he was stuck and I bent him over forward and rested my index finger and the one next to it on his eyes. He didn't want to lose his eyes so he stopped struggling.
