I have been doing what you are doing, but using the largest apples I could find, and processing using the same machine you have with better results than using smaller apples. By the way, the Excalibur trays hold 26 sliced apples laid out in a single layer on the 9 sheets. Love your videos. You got me dehydrating things I would have never tried. I dehydrate my apples at 145 degrees for approx. 9 hrs.

What was the item you put in the bag with the apples?
@Dehydrate2store3 жыл бұрын
Hi Curtis! Thank you for the question. We add oxygen packs to all of our vacuum bags. Although the vacuum sealer will suck out most of the oxygen, there will still remain some residual oxygen within crevices, and an oxygen pack will take care of that. For more, check out our article here: www.dehydrate2store.com/tips/food-storage-tips/#oxygenpacks

What did you do with the cores?
@Dehydrate2store3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question! We never waste anything in our kitchen! You can grind cores and use them as part of powders for teas. If doing this, I would be sure to remove the seeds, as large amounds of ground apple seeds can contain some unfavorable compounds. However, we typically use our apple and other fruit cores for composting!

Can't you dehydrate them with the peelings still on them? That's where all the vitamins are.
@Dehydrate2store3 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy, thank you for the question! Yes, you can dehydrate many fruits with the peelings on. However, for some fruits, the inner fruit will dehydrate more aggressively than the peeling, causing the two to separate in the process. These are still good to eat of course! Some fruits we leave the peels on, like lemons, limes, tangerines, peaches, starfruit, horn fruit, and others. Some, like apples, we remove the peels often. However, we never waste anything in our kitchen! For apple peels, we dehydrate those separately and often powder them for teas, baking, or other applications. All edible peelings we use in similar ways, and inedible peelings we compost. You can dehydrate apples with the peelings on too if desired and this will usually work very well. For some apple types with higher water content, you might see the peels separate away when dehydrating. Give it a try! Happy dehydrating!
