Yes, it is a good and practical way to delegate and as I see, a bit of leadership skill thrown into it will make delegation easy. I have seen instances, where work get done by delegation but throwing too much onto a person happens. I too delegate but keep it simple. I make it a point that commitment from my side is complete, help them along and see that it does not weigh them much.

…these have to become instinctive(basically second nature all the steps you said and more) and across the organisation(that’s what I learnt during my 13 years at Infosys). Also, this needs to be seen within the context of Bruce Tuckman’s ‘forming-storming-norming-performing’ model…teams are at different stages during their life… can’t just delegate very early in the teams life(generally speaking).
