Hello everyone! I hope you are well and it is good to be back. Today's video is on decorating with dark woods and traditional furniture. I call this style 'Refreshed Heritage' as it offers an opportunity to refresh and re-envision how we can decorate with brown wooden furniture across a variety of design styles. I hope you find these tips helpful! xx

Love this as dark wood is my favorite finish. I'm nearly done with my space and I wish I had started with the walls, b/c now I want to do a paneled wall "look" (trompe l'oeil) with wallpaper, but I'm not finding exactly what I want at the right price for my tiny budget.

This was so classy, and did not attempt to devalue inherited beautiful family heirlooms. Such things are irreplaceable, and thank you for honouring the true "sustainability" of things that are timeless and classic and classy if given the inspiration of a trained beautiful "eye" for how such Grand Ladies, and Gentlemen of the olde dark wood should be "dressed" to make us all smile, rather than groan. I loved every one of these tips, and particularly your identification of the temperature/undertone hints which enable accents to be used to blend with other timbers in the room. Thank you so much. This was the answer to my prayers for help ! GOD Bless ya heart.

I agree P Man! I find a lot of the time the furniture looks better in the beginning before it has been painted. Often it just hasn't found the right home yet or area of the house to be placed. However, I can see the appeal especially for beachy or boho houses with painted white and mostly bleached timbers xx

Quite common to have Georgian furniture in a colonial style home in the US. When I moved to Europe I brought along most of our American Georgian style furniture made of Cherry. Since then have found some small mahogany pieces but here prices are very high in comparison to US. Nevertheless, I love this style and with the help of your videos try to make it look a bit more modern and practical. Have a nice weekend Suzie and please continue to share with us your wonderful ideas. 🤗

Hi! I love dark wood furniture and choose dark walnut color when refinishing. Most all my furniture are antique. I don’t have an overly decorated house with Knick-knacks, but do use antiques as regular items. I’m not emotionally attached to them, if they get a scratch or nick, I keep a stain pen in my kitchen drawer, if they break I keep wood glue. Only a few pieces have I stripped to totally re-finish, usually I wood putty and spot stain, then use urethane. I don’t look at value so much as presentation and easy to use. My worst piece is still superior to a new piece of furniture and it’s fake wood.
@suzieandersonhome6 ай бұрын
It sounds like you have a wonderful appreciation for quality and craftsmanship! Your approach to refinishing and maintaining your antique furniture is practical and ensures they remain both functional and beautiful. Your home must have a timeless elegance with those dark wood pieces. Keep cherishing those treasures! xx
@blondek7676 ай бұрын
Another quick tip is all my furniture I have given a coat of urethane. This makes them washable and doesn’t leave water rings. I also use cloth doilies, the antique hand made ones, under every lamp or house plant. It prevents scratches and looks nice. After washing furniture, I go back and use Orange-Glow, it makes them look freshly waxed and makes the room smell nice. When we had new windows installed, I requested the dark walnut color, it makes looking outside easier believe it or not. Then found online very fancy lace curtains made of 100% polyester so washing them is easy, no iron. They compliment the dark windows and furniture!

I’ve always loved dark furniture. In a day and time where people want to paint everything it makes me cringe inside. I’m thinking do you people not understand how beautiful this wood is. You’re right the painting of a piece of furniture actually devalues it. I appreciate the furniture in its natural state and try to incorporate that In my color scheme. Another element and decorating is glass. I shop at thrift stores antique stores etc. and I see so much glass where of all types being sold for pennies on the dollar. And I’m thinking these are so beautiful and no one likes them. I guess in a way I’m a realist and love it for what it is and I wouldn’t change anything about the wood Or hesitate to buy vintage glassware

There are so many under appreciated items that are still useful. Looking for useful vintage items is one of my greatest pastimes. It’s like going through a museum but you can buy the display.
