I made that costly mistake once, I thought I was careful but wore them helmet up about 1-2 hours before sunset, didnt think it was that bright but burned the tubes, was $4000+ to replace them, I am so SUPER careful now, they only come out when its FULLY DARK!!!!

11b Airborne here, we do a lot of training in my unit. I was waiting for you guys to discuss healing nvg before deciding to sell them. I know from experience that not all damage is permanent with nvgs, some of these can range from a few hours to a week or two. I have experienced damage from explosions and flash bangs, ranging from lightening bolt like effects to black spots. The lightening bolt effect can last up to 10 hours. And the black spots UpTo a week. Both could be permanent. But I have experienced them recovering more often than not. Continuing to use the nvg in the appropriate setting you can actually watch them subside over the course of a few hours. There is also a technique call black boxing. I think you guys should follow up this video with these points and supporting information.

I like to do 2 things. Firstly, on my duals i always run a battery pack. You cant accidentally turn on your unit when it has no connected power supply. Also you dont have to worry about accidentally leaving in a battery. Secondly, for high light/damage prevention i like to run 5.56 holes on my bikini covers. I will put a piece of electrical tape over the holes to protect the unit fully and then when i need the hole for cutting down light i just remove the tape.

I’m wondering about street lamps, or a porch light being on. What feedback do we have on something like that? Going from woods out to a neighborhood, or a car driving by in the distance. What limits does NV have in a situation like that?
@Hatchet_Jack5564 ай бұрын
Based on their discussion, sounds like it PROBABLY wouldn't damage your tube instantly. The longer your tube is exposed to that light, the more likely it'll cause damage.
@mattcrisci994 ай бұрын
If your tubes are autogated you'll be fine.
@revvyishonisd50274 ай бұрын
@@bblauter street lights and porch lights don’t bother my unfilmed Gen 3, even if looking directly at them briefly. You start getting temporary shadow streaking in the tube with things like car headlights and even tail lights from roughly 40’ feet and in. The moon is one of the more hazardous things to look at in your typical night time mixed light environments. Most of the other night time style lights are perfectly manageable with short exposure to looking directly at them. But looking at the things those types of lights are illuminating is zero problem at all.

Camera Flash on a dark night? While hog hunting, a buddy took a pic of me and I looked right at him not knowing why he called my name, then I saw the flash. I don't think any damage was done. but can it? Is there a possibility of it degrading the performance of my gen 3 Elbit WP tubes?

I grew up in a trailer and understand that $15k is a chunk. BUT......I just spent 4 days without power after Hurricane Beryl, with 9mo twin kids and a 120lb GSD. I would have paid $50k to not be in a 98 degree F house. Not kidding. I have a tiny 9kW Champion on the way to run a few freezers and a portable AC.

@lonestarpiper49174 ай бұрын
Yeah! The full moon can really do a number. I had a blem form on my Elbit green phos from a full moon. Didnt even look at it for a long time. Less than 5 seconds id say. Luckily a black box healed it about 90 percent to where i dont notice it unless i focus on a white wall. The moon is after all just reflecting sunlight.
@revvyishonisd50274 ай бұрын
@@lonestarpiper4917 yeah I’ve even gone so far as to turn my gain *all* the way down and then look at the moon for 1-2 seconds. And that shit will *still* leave a shadow streak across my tube for a few minutes.

I thought this would be more in the lines of defeating, night vision, for us poor's that cannot afford night vision. we need a way to take it out or stay camouflaged from it!! as others have mentioned, I would like to see several different brands of night vision, run through the mill and torture tested.

What if you destroy the nvg of someone who wasn't scum and willing to help? alot of us realize community is more important then just running everyone off nvg is extremely easy to hide from thermal not so much but if you don't have nvg and are facing people that do by the time you destroy one unit the others got you down best bet is to stay hidden because the fight is already out of your favor and your only bringing more danger to yourself/family

The sun causes damage because it's so close and bright. The stars are hundreds of light-years away, and are incredibly dim. They can't damage your tubes.

Its wild how many times this guys is just straight up wrong. Gen 3 tubes dont retain power when off. Within 2 seconds no light will hurt them. Also its almost as if this guy has never heard of autogating. You can run them in day light inbetween buildings and never have an issue. This guy is just basically reciting lore

You can permanently damage a powered off tube if it points towards the sun
@johnadams6734 ай бұрын
@HenrikSherwood false.. it would have to be aligned and focused on the sun projecting a focused beam onto the plate. It would take a concentrated effort to get it lined up and focused. Just setting on a table as the sun moves past would cause no damage what so ever. It's almost as if you guys never use this stuff
