How to determine if it's time for a new fence?

Is it time for a new fence? That's the question. New home construction usually comes with a budget friendly fence that is a number three grade. It rots a little bit faster. Usually doesn't have a kick board along the base of the fence. Usually has wood posts, so when your lawn guys are out there, they're nicking everything. And they're just chewing it all up. It looks like a little beaver's been through it. It's that moisture's actually getting in there from the sprinklers. And the bugs are getting in there and it just eats it all up. So if it is new home construction, eight to 10 years, it's probably about time to go ahead and replace the fence. You also want to look out for picket rot along the base of the fence. All these things are items that you can see. The other option too, that you can do, is maintenance on the fence. So if your fence is starting to gray a little bit you can always go in and you can do a bleach or a power wash and then add stain and you might be able to prolong the life of the fence, depending on the types of stains that are out there. So you can do a transparent, which, on a new fence, looks great. Once your fence starts aging a little bit you want to go to a semi-transparent. And once it reaches roughly about 12 to 15 years old on a good fence you want to go into a solid stain so that it will last about another 4 to 5 years.
