Hey, what did you get on your ORGO 2 as you final grade? I am currently taking ORGO 1, and I gotten 95 on the first test, but not so confident in the next test. People told me that ORGO 2 is def. easier, than ORGO 1. Is this true?

at 4:20, would signal A not be 2 separate signals since the 2 methyl groups on carbon 2 neighbor carbons 1 and 3, while carbon 1 neighbors carbon 2 and its 2 methyl substituents? c-c rotation doesn't seem to rationalize your explanation.
@Robin-bm4sp3 жыл бұрын
No, having a building set for this would help you. But you can look up any “tert-butyl” substituted molecule it’s 3D structure (tetrahedral). You’ll see that they are fully equivalent easily from its 3D structure. They all 3 are equally far from the 4th R-group.

minute 14:22, shouldn't we have a total of 6 H-NMR signals with the H attached to the Ethyl group? where the "f" carbon is?
@lorialvarez25014 жыл бұрын
No because carbon has 4 bonds to it. There is a double bond.

One question remains: Why can you just apply a line of symmetry for the benzine ring of ethylbenzine? I thought that every H-Atom of the molecule has a different signal because there is no symmetry. For example, you say that the H-Atoms at position C2 and C6 are equivalent, as they are equally distanced from the ethyl group. But is the terminal CH3 group of ethyl not closer to the H-Atom at C6 than to that at C2? Wouldn't there be a chemical effect?

@juliettechollet60442 жыл бұрын
I think he made a mistake in the example around 7:30. There are only 3 bonds shown for the carbons that make forks, meaning that another H is attached. Doesn't that emit a 4th signal? That would be consistent with what he shows at 5:59. If someone could confirm or explain why this isn't so that would be great.
@liomost2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I am confused maybe he just forgot
@HimanshuSharma-xn6uc2 жыл бұрын
No he is correct there will be 3 signal only

But how many atoms, though?? Can someone explain how to count the unique number of 13C or 1H atoms in the molecule? Do you just count them like in the molecular formulas of the compound?
